Smash Wii U Will this version be released in 2014?

Getting a little antsy about this. When you consider how the 3DS version was pushed back and how we haven't even gotten a whiff of a release date yet, I think it's an unfortunately realistic possibility that we might not see the Wii U version until 2015. What say you?

They already stated a billion times (figure of speech) that this game will not be pushed back to 2015. They even said it's coming out Winter for NA and 2014 Holiday season for Europe.

The general consensus is that they're targetting for a Wii U release date by Holiday 2014. This has been the plan, and hopefully, will stick to it.

Even now, they continue to stress that it will be released this year. Remember that Past, Present, and Future Nintendo games? Well, Smash was in the 2014 release section. No worries.

Besides, Smash has a bad track record for releasing games on time. I could see it happening again.

They are merely waiting until they can hype the game. They will start hyping it after the 3ds version comes out. The new details combined with the popularity of the 3ds version will be perfect time for marketing.

Sakurai has already stated that both versions are basically complete, but they wanted to take care of the debugging stages separately. So the Wii U version is more or less idle right now. Once the 3DS version is out, they will get to debugging the Wii U version, and a release date will follow suit.

I'm betting that they'll have it out for November 21st or November 28th.

The 3DS version was not pushed back. They, in an international Direct, revealed that it would be out in the Summer. Japan is getting it in the Summer no question, and honestly the case could be made for early October as well.

Don't worry, we'll see Wii U Smash this year. They'd be idiots to let it go any longer than early December.

Anyone who thinks Nintendo is going to pass on the chance to sale ambiios during the holiday season obviously dont know how this industry works. There is no chance in hell the wii u can afford to not have this game out this holiday season.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's idle, I'm sure they are still working and testing it every day but everyone is probably on the mark in saying that they are waiting on the 3DS release to drop all the Wii U info bombs.

Yes, the reason they didn't announce the Wii U version release date yet is because they just want to get the 3DS version released first, what we don't know is if they will wait till the Japanese release of the 3DS version to announce the release date or wait until the game is released everywhere.

In an interview during E3, Nintendo said that they're trying to get the Wii U version out by Black Friday. As others have said, Nintendo NEEDS this game out by the holiday shopping season to move a ton of Wii U units, so delaying the game to 2015 is almost out of the question.

We won't get a solid release date or much more details about the Wii U version until after Smash 3DS releases.

It is urgent they release the game this year for their sake. And obviously, it is going to release this year now that Amiibos are well on their way to being stocked on shelves in November/December.

It's coming out this year, even if they can't get it out in good time before Christmas, it could still be coming out late December and not be a delay.

I'm sure we're getting a date like a week after the 3DS version is out everywhere.

Yeah. As with everyone else, I'm gonna point out that, yeah. Missing the holiday season is DISASTEROUS on this one. It happened for the Wii version, but at the time, the Wii was the most popular console on the market BY FAR. With the current state of next gen consoles (none of them are doing terribly great, the PS4 is just doing less terrible at this moment), the holiday season is super important.

On top of that, though, the Gamecube adapter AND the smash Amiibos have had a release of November set already. That seems to indicate that Nintendo knows the release date for the Wii U version but is waiting until the 3DS version is released to reveal it, because, as several people have pointed out in other threads, they want to build the hype.
