A friend of mine is unable to get online with his wiiu, both smashbros and mk8 won't work online.

We live in Australia and his ISP is telstra, he is using a technicolor modem.

The type of modem he has is a little outdated, and for one reason or another, its blocking wiiu access to connecting to peers.
I have done a fair bit of research on the topic and basically everyone using this router is having the same issue.
The router does not have a DMZ mode, but instead it has an "assign public ip" option, which unfortunately.. is faulty with this model.
I've contacted telstra and asked them to help with port forwarding, apparently.. this router is not capable of port forwarding.

My friend wants to get online ASAP, as we are very keen to smash together, so he is looking for a new router, he works alot and is unable to make it to the shops most days, but tomorrow he has the day off. As the wiiu has already cost him alot of money, he does not want to spend much of getting a new router, I've told him that he shouldn't need to spend to much because well, any moderm/router would be un upgrade to his.

Where we live, there are no computer stores, just generic electronic stores (****smith, harvey norman, jbhifi)

I have found this moderm/router for him for $90 at a local store, my question to you is.. will this work with the wiiu? I've tried googling the problem with this specific router and found no results or similar issues, so I'm hoping thats a good thing and the problem does not exist.

The router I found is the "netgear dgn2200"

note: online purchases is a no-no, he needs to buy a router tomorrow.
note : he has a low budget, to much money has been spent on the wiiu already, and due to living in australia, we're already unable to play FG, so this purchase is just giving us the access to VS each other.

I have a netgear router and I can assure you I have little to no trouble to connecting online.

Now i looked a little into your netgear dgn2200 and it does have a dmz mode and it can portforward. So sure, get him that.
