Will the 3DS have enough buttons?

I was playiong the Vita version of PS All Stars and it seemed like a pretty accurate and faithful adaptation but to pick up items you needed to touch the screen. This is a bit awkward and if the screen think you touched twice you pick it up and then trow it away again.

I hope Nintendo has a better idea for the 3DS smash bros.

This is how I may imagine the button mapping for the 3DS version with and without the Circle Pad Pro:

Without CCP:
Circle Pad: Move character
+ Pad: Taunts
L/R: Shield
X/Y: Jump
A: Normal moves
B: Special moves

You would have to use L/R+A for grabs, but given how Brawl had customizable controls, you could assign the grab button to R or Y, for example.

With the CCP, you would have the second Circle Pad for instant Smash attacks, as well as two extra shoulder buttons for grabs.

Similarly to Super Street Fighter IV 3D, we could have the touch screen to be used for customizable shortcuts, such as grabs, smash attacks, taunts and such.

That is to say that I don't think this is much of an issue.

Um....yes it will have enough buttons.

A/B = Attacks
X/Y = Jumps
Left bumper = Shield/grab
Right Bumper = Shield
+ = Taunts
I don't even have to say what the circle pad will do.

W/O CPP, I actually see Smash 4 3DS having a control scheme similar to Smash 64.

Circle pad - Move
D-pad - Taunts
A - Normals
B - Specials
X/Y - Jump
L - Shield
R- Grab

Basically I see it working just like with the Classic Controller, but have either L or R be the grab button, given its lack of Z buttons.

Or how about the X button be the jump button and the Y button being the grab button (or the other way round). Since people here seem to lump both the X and Y buttons as jump buttons why not make one of them the grab button? That takes care of the lack of grab button. (or just have the R button be the grab button but yeah.)

Then the other buttons are what you would expect of them to be. A is normal attack, B is special move, Circle pad is for movement, plus control pad for taunts and shoulder buttons are for the shield etc etc.

Circle Pad pro for C-Stick?

The X could be an extra grab button. (Seeing as the circle pad and Y button can both be used for jumping, we don't need a third jumping option)

The big concern would be that the C-Stick functionality would have to be abolished.
