Looking around here and looking around Reddit, I see many people saying that smash 4 is going to be great fun and is going to be a great game. Most people around here seem to be concerned for the future of Smash 4, while I am concerned for the future of Melee.
When Brawl came out, many people seemed to be excited for the next chapter of Melee, however many were disappointed by the speed and lack of advanced techs. This meant that Brawl was never able to take the place of Melee as many considered it to be too different from Melee, although numbers for Melee went down, some of the people who tried Brawl went back to Melee as the game was so different. Melee could have gone out with Brawl but didn't due to many people not liking the fact that Brawl was a slower game than Melee.
Note: I am not saying that Brawl is worse or better than Melee.
So here comes Smash 4, although it's still not as fast as Melee, but once again, the community will be split up as some may leave Melee for Smash 4. However, unlike Brawl, it may be able to satisfy the people from Melee as it is a faster game than Brawl, so what this means is that there will be less people coming back to Melee after they leave.
I was talking about this to one of the players on the dolphin netplay IRC, he was talking about how this had already happened for the counter strike community. He said that 1.6 was like Melee, but then CS:S comes along, however, similar to Brawl, most of the people reject it and decide to stick to 1.6. But then CS:GO comes along, similar to how Smash 4 is, now I don't much about counter-strike, but what the person I was talking to said was that CS:GO didn't excel as much as 1.6 did for him, although it was similar enough for most of the 1.6 community to move from 1.6 to CS:GO.
Thoughts?
