Smash Wii U Will my disc save-file work with a digital download?

I've had Smash Wii U for a week now and I've truly binged on it. I've got about 19 challenges left to do and I'm loving it. However, I bought the disc version because of the bundle with the adapter, but I'm regretting that decision. The loading times are quite bad and I've got just enough space on my premium Wii U to fit the 18 gigs download. So I'm thinking about selling my disc and getting the download instead.

However, I don't want to lose my save file! Will that happen when I download the game or what?

I'm about 99% sure you won't have a problem. Game saves on the Wii U are stored internally and the system will read the image of the game the same whether it's on a disc or on your hdd.

I know, but I've had to delete my almost completed Hyrule Warriors save after I moved the game from the Wii U to an external hard drive. The Wii U can be a bit iffy about these things, it seems. I don't mind my lost HW save file much, but if it would delete my Smash save, there'd be hell to pay.
