Smash for Wii U is scheduled for release holiday 2014. Assuming they want to capitalize on the market I would guess a pre-Christmas release was originally planned. Most likely before Black Friday as well. It is almost September, so I feel like we should have a release date by now. Am I over thinking it or does this game have a likely 2015 release?

I think you are overthinking it. I trust Sakurai. He is pushing these games. By the time the 3DS version releases he will begin to roll out Wii U info. Don't be worried.

I think they'll announce it when the 3DS version is released. Whether it's the English release or the Japanese one, who knows?

Until the official website changes from Holiday 2014 to sometime in 2015, expect them to follow through with the Holiday 2014 release 
The attention is on the 3DS version, so it wouldn't surprise me if they're saving the reveal of the exact date for the Wii U release until after the 3DS version is out.

I'm assuming late November will be the release, but we'll see. I doubt it'll be delayed, but you never know.

From the sound of things, the 3DS version is already complete (it would be freaking insane to think it wouldn't be so close to release) while the Wii U version is just being debugged right now. (Meaning it's complete but not properly tested and polished as the final version should be.)
I bet we'll be getting a release date shortly after the 3DS version has been released worldwide. At the very least, it'll be here before Christmas and ****, because no way they'd want to miss that.

Worst case scenario, it's released on eShop and people who want physical copies may have to race for the possible understocking.
