Is Shantae worth playing? I see her everywhere and all I really know about the games is that they're platformers that are apparently really good and star a cute genie girl.

So are they actually good or is the popularity from the cute genie girl?

From what I have seen I think the game is worth trying since its a classic platformer with original characters. I tried the very first one for the GBC and liked it.

Trust me when I say a big part of the popularity comes from the cute girls, there is a lot of Shantae fanart from Japan despite the series never touching its shores. I know a dude on Steam who didn't play a Shantae game until Risky's Revenge for PC, and he had Shantae avatars for two years. Not like there's anything wrong with a cute character or two though, it's not like character design should influence what games you like or not. Unless you're Polygon.

The games? I've only played Risky's Revenge and I personally found it kind of boring, stopped apparently halfway through. I hear GBC Shantae and Pirate's Curse are way better than it. And no, my only source on that isn't the same dude on Steam.

I've also heard Guacamelee is fun. Right now I'm considering Guacamelee and Shantae, let's see if others can add more reviews.

I'm not sure if it works this way for Europe, but we have a similar sale going on in the US, but you need to own one of the games or buy one at full price before you can buy one for the discounted price, which is kind of a shame for me because I don't own any and would have really liked to get Mighty Switch Force and Shantae.

Yes that is the same deal in europe. You can buy one of the cheapest ones and get the discount on those expensive ones, though.

I got Guacamelee the other day and from that sale, I got Shantae. I spent about an hour into both games and they're both pretty darn awesome.
