Why the huge gap between the release times of Smash 3DS?

So Smash 3DS has a big gap when it comes to releases of the English and Japanese versions of the game. September 13th for the Japanese version and October 3rd for the North American version. With the recent leak that came out, it seems like the game is finished and we are just waiting on ESRB. Interestingly enough, ESRB has, or are going to have, English copies of the game, as shown by the leaker. So if the translation is done, why is there such a huge gap between the two versions?

Edit: In case you all we're wondering on why I'm complaining, this is how I feel:

Even when games are "golden" as in finished, developers sometimes leave some leeway so they can polish them. Knowing Sakurai, he really wants to make sure his games are as perfect (in terms of performance and being not buggy) as possible.

I personally don't think it is a huge gap at all, what, less than a month in between?
They're probably doing this to allow time to make small adjustments, catch bugs and so forth for the localized versions. (Kind of like Pokemon Diamond/Pearl with the Elite 4 Surf glitch)

It doesn't make sense though because if that was the case there would be a worldwide release.

For some people, it is a huge gap. Hence why some are getting Japanese 3DS's for Smash 4.

I don't mind the gap that much I just can't wait for it to appear on my home screen.

It actually could be a lot worse I'm just thankful it isn't longer. Anyway I think the reason there is a gap is to work the bugs out of online modes before they release it here.

Perhaps dubbing? Hmm, could we choose what language Marth speaks?!

Anyway, Nintendo's always been like this when it comes to releases coming on different dates. Pokémon X & Y are the only games I know that had a worldwide release. If they wanted to lessened spoilers and leaks, maybe a worldwide release would be better since nobody would know earlier besides the reviewers and such.

So there is no confirmed actual reason why there isn't a worldwide release? -_-

Nintendo. Just Nintendo. The one and only reason: Nintendo. How many times can I put "Nintendo" in a sentence? Nin. Ten. Do.

I can understand that, I'd probably do the same too, but importing can be rather expensive.
I can't wait for the game to come out and I'd want it to come out sooner too, but there isn't much we can do about it. (aside from importing)

Huge gap? Three weeks are a huge gap since when?

Hopefully the gap is them making sure the Japanese voice option works properly, unlike the equivalent in FE Awakening.

But really, looking at some of those leaked trophy images, there are still translation and spelling errors that need fixing.

Since the reveal trailer.
That's nothing. Just look at the Kingdom Hearts III, Final Fantasy XV, F-Zero, and Mother/Earthbound fans. You've survived a slap-fight; those guys are surviving a war.

As a fan of Mother and F-Zero (and also Fire Emblem, which almost got killed as well), I would suggest this be worded "surviving the apocalypse".

But yeah, three weeks is going to kill me. Going to have to spend it all watching constant footage from the JP version.

We can add Dark Cloud, Megaman, Zone of the Enders, and more to this.

Forgot about Bomberman, though it's not been as long as the others.

Starfox is already confirmed to be getting a new game on the U. Captain Falcon will never race again. :crying:
Off Topic, but inb4 captain falcon DLC character for MK8

I know the pain of waiting though, but I don't like getting screwed over by Nintendo when products are already done.

NINTENDO, I JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU MONEY. WHY DON'T YOU LIKE MONEY.

Well now when I think about it there could still be voice acting to finish or bugs to fix so when it releases it's not glitchy.

Of Hell.
Lol

Well, I'm probably gonna be watching the game quiet a bit. I'm also going to probably get a chance to play the Japanese version when it comes out. Also, the Wii U version should be around this weekend in select cities. I think both of these should scratch my smash itch until it's released. That and college. Ugh...

I was so hyped when they announced the 3DS Version for Summer. It would be the only game I was looking forward to for the Summer.

But I didn't know October was Summer for Japan...

I know, right? I was really looking forward to getting all the smash out my system over the summer, but it's alright. We are only a month and some change away. Good things come to those who wait.

...most of the time.

It is absolutely peculiar.

Why is there, in fact, a huge time?
Sakurai does not like spoilers, and by obvious idea, the world would have the entire roster spoiled by that gap.

He is of course, going to no length to make the roster fully available this month. He has given mostly nothing.
He had to have known there would be a leak, or at least, the cartridge would be hacked. That there would be no surprise for the people around the world to have a 'surprise' character if Japan got it so much earlier.

Unless... it isnt all on the cartridge.

I think the time in between is somehow a sign that it isnt all there.
Why? I don't know. Adding things to the characters, prior? Or, development time for DLC characters, or.... somehow, using Japan as a test play group?

Who knows, but it is certainly suspicious.

It is not suspicious. Japanese games are usually released in Japan first. That is about it.

Smash bros is not a usual game. It generates more hype and speculation than, quite possibly, any other.
It single handedly won e3; has an entire website devoted to daily updates; has this entire forum plus so many others with thousands of members spending their time on it.

more people own the 3DS, that's the only reason why it's coming out first for it

it's a business tactic to make more revenue off the consumer

The post you quoted had nothing to do with the relationship of 3DS to Wii U titles; but even what you stated being the case, that would only make it more likely that the Smash for Wii U would release first, to drive people to buy the Wii U by having SSB first in getting it.

I have absolutely no idea what point you are trying to claim.

their primary market is not the wii u, it costs more to release at the same time

What on earth is your point?
This thread is not about the gap between 3DS and Wii U, it is about the gap between the Japanese 3DS release and American/Worldwide 3DS release.

And both are the market, they are not releasing the game to fail on ether platform.

Its not Nintendo that releases the copies. Its the retailers. Why would it cost more money?
