Why so much focus on 1v1?

The other day I played several FG matches with a friend doing 2v2. It was really fun and refreshing after grinding hard in 1v1 vs high tier characters. It seems like more characters are viable in a 2v2 setting as you have a teammate to back you up. 2v2 takes completely different strategy and it creates a lot more complexity in strategy. Unfortunately it seems like most 2 player teams on FG are scrubs but I think we should give more attention to the 2v2 game at tournaments and such.

I guess because 1v1s show off individual skill, no one likes to carry a teammate. Plus you would have to scrape together a good teammate for doubles tourneys

A lot of great competetive videogames are team oriented. Why not smash as well? i totally get why 1v1 is awesome but I think 2v2 is really fun and deserves more attention.

2v2 does get a lot of attention, "WOMBO COMBO" comes to mind. It's often more exciting to see 1v1s though, and it's more difficult to find someone who can compliment your playstyle perfectly and mains a character that has a lot of chemistry with your own. I've played 2v2 on For Glory before, unless you're playing with the other person on the same console as you, there is absolutely no point to it.

2v2 is awesome. I love it. I've even started a "2v2 finder" thread for people to find dedicated partners and 2v2 online matches. However, it's difficult logistically to set up competitive 2v2 matches because 4 people need to be available at the same time.

That said, offline, 2v2 is a great side event. Finding a partner isn't hard if you express the interest and become friends with someone, and usually people pair with players of equal skill. It lost a lot of steam due to the whole Game & Pika strategy, but, now that that's somewhat patched out, 2v2 is no longer a broken game. The discussion on 2v2 strategies is a hard one to have because there are so many more variables and combinations than in 1v1.

1v1 is much easier to discuss as a lot works in 2v2 that doesn't work in 1v1 (Shadow Sneak can do some serious work)

Yeah I was playing with a friend on the same console for 2v2 FG. I just hate that it's a timed match and not stock. 1v1 is so unbalanced as tiers inevitably develop and AT's are discovered leading to less and less variety in matchups whereas the 2v2 scenario has so many possibilities...

I've always preferred 2v2, but a lot of people prefer to rely on their own individual skill instead of having to resort to teamwork or cooperation. In my experience (read: in my friend group), those who prefer 1v1 typically don't work as well with others to begin with.
