I'm not going to mention anything about the recent leak in fear of this being taken down.

The leak is clearly real. The "fake proof" is "it's blurry" and "it's too many characters".

The picture wasn't suppose to be a careful picture, it was suppose to be a private snapchat. There are not too many characters, it's still less than any other game.

People on this board are scared of leaks and I don't get it. Why? All of the stuff gets taken down for no reason.

I may hate Gamefaqs with every single bone in my body but at least they aren't scared to talk about leaks.

Why doesn't Smashboards just make a separate category for leaks so the people who like looking at those can chat while it doesn't affect other sections of the site?

Maybe it has something to do with people wanting to be cautious depite how convincing a leak might look? You're acting like Smashboards hasn't been burned before by a fake leak.

You say "I'm not going to mention the leak" then start talking about the leak.

If you can't keep talk about the leak out of your own post AFTER you say you aren't going to talk about it, why do you think making a seperate section is going to be able to isolate leak talk. If allowed one place it will leak out.

Now, as for leaks in general and why people don't like them ...

Some people like to be surprised and don't want things spoiled for them.
99 times out of a hundred the leak turns out to be fake.
This gives the leakers attention they don't deserve.
It gets people upset or excited about things that turn out to be not even remotely true.

It can be convincing, but not necessarily true. Also, let's not go around saying it's clearly real. It's bad enough we've got Thinkman going around doing that for the Verg leak.

I know I probably shouldn't be talking here, but I'll explain it in a calm way.

As another said before, some players are cautious, and rather not be spoiled, which is always hard when it's close to release time for some big games such as Smash. For me, it's my belief that different ppl create these... leaks... to gain attention or create chaos, though the majority are fake.

Also, these so-called leaks can easily kill hype for a game for many, and I've seen it happen during the Smash 4 times.
And say if one was actually real... that would definitely be a spoiler which again, not only kills hype, but it definitely would be against the rules and law for showing off lots of content that's not supposed to be revealed yet or something like that, and the one who did it would definitely be getting into big trouble.

And for those who'd probably say to get off the internet to avoid this or something, that's not as easy as it sounds for some of us. We shouldn't have to be in fear of these things all the time when a big game like Smash is close, but unfortunately, we are.
Short version is it's illegal and kills hype.

https://smashboards.com/threads/people-trusting-leaks-why.462462/ We have a thread for it anyway(for "trusting leaks" in general).

Besides that, of course people are going to be skeptical. It's normal and pretty smart not to buy into stuff that could be photoshopped. It's important to be cautious, as nobody likes to get burned hard.
