Why is Pokemon Stadium 1 legal?

That stage, IMO, is completly broken, especially the Fire and Rock transformations, which allows wall infinites and easy chaingrabs. And it's worse in Brawl, as the Water stage's windmill acts like walls, limitating your KO options and PS2 is banned as well, despite having transformations that less drastic that PS1.

Why is it even legal?

Weren't the windmill fans walls in Melee too? And it's legal for the same reason Rainbow Cruise was in brawl, because there's no actual hazards. We all don't like it or have to pick it, but it's just another option that's there.
But I see that a stage hack called "balanced pokemon stadium" is getting pretty popular. I used it myself, it's awesome. It deserves a spot as a Project M tourney stage imo.

Is it legal in PM? I thought it was just Stadium 2, which removed the transformations, right? I don't see much issue with it being in Melee. I don't really find it unfair, though I will agree that some characters (:foxmelee:) do better than others. I generally enjoy playing there, and never felt cheated out of a win by a transformation. Though I think it'd be better for everyone if there were no transformations, or if there were an option to disable them.

It is a counter in PM.

I know about the mod, I downloaded it and it's much better and no, the windmill's fan is not a wall in Melee.

And BTW, Rainbow Cruise is banned in Melee, which makes me wonder why it's not in Brawl and lots of hazardless melee stages are banned (Temple, Mushroom Kingdom I & II, Yoshi's Island 64, etc.) and Yoshi's Story (Melee) have "hazards" (those goddamn Shy Guys), so I think the lack of hazards isn't a good argument towards the legality of stages.

RCruise is an exception in Brawl because of Diddy Kong. That one character lmao

Never liked Pokemon Stadium as a counter its stage transformations is too gimmicky and any stage that allows wall infinites is ridiculous. I always played with just Fountain of Dreams, Battlefield, Final Destination, Yoshi's Story, and Dream Land in Melee and Final Destination, Battlefield, Lylat Cruise, Smashville, and Yoshi's Island. I prefer a smaller stage pool of only neutral stages and hopefully Sm4sh has more neutral stages which seems to have a good amount of them.

I play in (very) small tournaments every Wednesday and no one (except Fox and Falco mains) ever picked PS. EVER!

Seriously, Fox/Falco in PS seems to be an instant win for him, which I believe makes it absolutely broken in certain situations and I'm pretty sure certain stages have been banned for less (Congo Jungle in Smash 64's Japanese ruleset is a good example of it)

PS1 isn't in good (read: West Coast) Project M stagelists.

Is it still in Brawl? I don't really follow Brawl that much. . .that game is broken anyway.

As for Melee. . .it's just SUCH A NICE STAGE without the transformations. And things aren't that abused anyway, since characters don't need walls and stuff for large punishes. Most people camp them out anyway. To be honest Fountain of Dreams strongly affects more matchups than Pokemon Stadium.

Fox and Falco shouldn't be an "instant win" on that stage. It's just the players being good. It's definitely a great stage for them, but it's also a good stage for Peach, pretty solid for Puff, good for Samus, amazing for Captain Falcon, not bad for Marth, meh for Sheik. . .idk it's just a good stage.

So to answer your question, the reason it isn't banned IN MELEE is because you can get really good punishes without the walls and stuff (whereas in Brawl you won't be getting punishes otherwise so you need the wall gimmicks and they make more of a difference), and because it doesn't affect matchups that much, especially compared to a stage like Fountain of Dreams.
