Not all people, mind you, just a select few.
When people use low tiers simply because they aren't top tiers is just dumb to me. Some of them are just hipsters. "Sheik is overused and overrated, Ganon is clearly the choice for people who REALLY like Smash." Or maybe they just want to have an excuse when they lose. "I would have won if I wasn't playing Ganondorf!" Well, if you want to win, why would you pick a character that statistically gives you a lower chance of winning? If you want to have fun as Ganon, go ahead, but don't expect to win tourneys.
Again, not ALL people who play low tier characters fall under this, the thought just came to me after watching Low Tier God in Street Fighter.
