Why haven't we added custom characters/content to Melee yet?

What are the limitations? It would be to cool to eventually see a custom Melee using the game mechanics, but having more characters.

New stages are already being made, though new hazards aren't possible for now.

About characters, we don't know how to add new animations, and it's a needed thing for having a successful new character. Even if we knew about how to do that, it took Mewtwo few hundred hours in Project M for making his animations, so a new character for Melee would take a long time too.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe someone a lot smarter than me can make a program that exports animation files. Basically, if you've ever heard of Runescape, there was a HUGE "private server community" where people basically took the game and created programs that would read the game's engine (or it's Client). One of the major programmers in the RSPS history, named MrPotatoHead, made a program that could read character animation files, and he was able to dump them AND view them in a program he made (called RSPoser). It was revolutionary to the community. Once he came out with that, people started creating animations, etc.

Do we not know where animations files are kept within the game? Or is something we don't have access to? Or even, is there no way to dump them into any modelling software program?

Honestly, it would take hella long to develop software like that. Who knows what kind of ****ed up **** Sakurai made in order to prevent us from reading his files (Not that he could have predicted this, just that it is a common practice to hide file formatting).

Well, part of it too is really how the game is structured. Everything is a pointer to a hard-coded function specific to that character, rather than being some intermediate format with functions that are mostly shared.
