Why does my stage striking feature not work?

My controller works fine like I can strike stages on other peoples Project M games but for some reason it doesn't work on my game. Does anyone know of any possible reasons why I can't strike stages?

That's a good question is it fairly easy to find out if I'm using the wifi codeset?

If light-pressing the shield button makes you shield, then yeah, you have the wifi set.
