Why does melee feel so slow?

Alright so Melee feels very slow when playing against people it doesn't matter who I pick but no matter what it feels slower than playing against level 1 when I practice techs. Anyone have the same feeling or know why?

Likely just bad movement/not knowing your character or the game well enough. Grind out your tech and you should be good. Learn to shffl, wd, etc and you'll start becoming a lot faster.

I play really weird and it works a lot of times when going people not too much better than but I play Marth in a really counter attacking style instead of ultra aggressive but when I practice tech I do it really aggressively. Maybe that has something to do with it?

That may be it, try to implement tech into your defensive style. Think about when someone approaches, use your best defensive options, or run away and counter act. Imagine a Fox nairs at you and you're under the left platform of BF. You may want to waveland onto the platform and drop through with an attack, or you might shield, and wavedash oos to punish.

Couldn't you wave land then bait with a shield drop and go for a u air combo?

What people are you playing against? If you're both a a low skill level it would make sense that the game is a little bit slow because nobody's using super advanced movement.

Also in some matchups the game is just going to be slow. Like if you're fighting Puff he may be spending a lot of time ledge-camping or recovering from like ten-billion percent. Different matchups are different speeds.

Think about dual maining Falco later on because I really like how he's slower and the way he looks when being played.
Don't ever dual main. Dual maining, in a sense, limits your skill ceiling. If you want to build your skill ceiling to the maximum, stick with one character.

Kinda hard to say when half the top players dual main imo. But that's a different topic.

The game isn't fast by default. you have to push the game, the game doesn't push you.

The main cause of the game not feeling(or being) fast starting out is because you don't have a good feeling for when exactly your moves end. There are other things too but I'd say this is the main issue.
Do an aerial and dash away, now look a high level recording of your character and see whether they do it faster. I'm sure they do. Not only do they know the timing more exactly, they adjust to whether you did or did not hit and know the different landing lags of the aerials.
The same applies to tilts, throws, falco lasers, shine(knowing exactly how much hitstun it has) and so on just as well of course
