Why does everyone expect a late August release for this game?

But really, who wants to go the whole summer and then get the game when some of us will have school, so we wouldn't even be able to enjoy it that much?

I don't think anyone wants it to be August, but Nintendo has a bad habit of never releasing games when people want them. EVERYTHING gets delayed or released as late as possible without being technically delayed; heck, people are probably still sore about Brawl's infamous delays.

I'd love an early July release, but honestly August is probably optimistic, and I have basically zero faith in Wii U Smash coming out in 2014 given the "Winter" release.

Yeah, but it's not like the 3DS version needs more development time. From the looks of it, they're just about done, and probably need the month of June for polishing/bug testing.

The Wii U version? Yeah, that one could end up being delayed. Let's cross our fingers and hope otherwise, though.

In all seriousness, it could go either way. Nintendo could be nice and give us the game mid-July, or could agonize and give us the game early September.

It's easier to just be negative in my opinion - you can either feel good that you were right or be very pleasantly surprised, versus being right or being horribly disappointed.

Because Nintendo. It is safer to assume the game you come later than earlier. Since I still have to buy a 3DS again (I sold mine in December), I am actually hoping it isn't released in July. August would be the ideal for me.

Hopefully it's released before the beginning of August, because by then I'll be moved an hour away and I've already preordered my copy of the 3DS version at the GameStop nearest me currently so I would either be out $40 (80 once i buy the copy in SLC) dollars because GameStop won't give me cash back for canceling a preorder or I'd have to make a two hour round trip wasting more gas than I would like to.

People are pessimists. I think July sounds good, july or september will probably be it. The WiiU one will definitely come out for the holidays, so this date will provide ample time for the 3ds version to sell some copies, and for people to get money for WiiU version, and system, that thing sells horribly.

The games look pretty much done. You should remember that Namco and Sora are both working on the game. Also Nintendo feel confident enough to let pros play a tournament and show smash U in best buy around USA, and the WiiU version is definitely not as far in development as the 3ds version. Realistically the 3ds version is probably mostly done already, they can hold up the release though. Plus releasing the 3ds version would give them lots of feedback for the WiiU version, and it will give them opportunity to fix and adjust the game to people's liking. Just hope they will patch the 3ds one also :D

Just remember guys, Brawl got delayed a few months. So if it ends up being Fall instead of summer don't be surprised.
