Why do people think we're not getting a Direct for March?

I know we usually only get Nintendo Directs every two months, but next month there does seem to be a reason for one- the end of the Year of Luigi. It can start off showcasing everything that made Year of Luigi and then talk about either a final game for the "year" or start the rumored "Year of Yoshi" kick off. Plus, they could show off another newcomer, which they'll have to start doing if we're planning to get a few more before launch. I'm just saying, I wouldn't get hopes up for a March Direct, but i wouldn't completely dismiss it. What are everyone else's thoughts on the matter?

I think that Nintendo needs to keep the fanbase satisfied quick...the next Direct (March) could showcase news on games that haven't been announced, since the few last Directs have focused on already-announced games launching through Spring, I know there's the E3 Direct, but that just seems a little too far away and we're getting droughts of games. The next Direct could be perfect to announce Retro's next Metroid and Next Level Games' next Mario Strikers.

Isn't Direct monthly more than just every two months? At least from what I've seen from sources.

Nevertheless I might expect a Direct in March.

Don't you think it's a little soon for Retro to announce anything new? I mean, we JUST got Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and they took what seemed like forever to say what they were working on officially (we got the "it's something everyone wants us to do" response). But i certainly agree- E3 is too far and there's too much of a drought. Nothing notable is coming out from now until Mario Kart 8 on Wii U and after Yoshi's New Island the next notable release is Kirby Triple Deluxe in May, which Japan already got. They need to throw us a bone- what about Yarn Yoshi or Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei? And i'd like to pressure them for more about X but at least they teased it last Direct...

Nintendo directs are usually once a month I think. With the "major" ones being every two months. But having one in March seems kind of likely as it is, since Yoshi's game is coming out that month. I think that's something they'd like to plug a lot, maybe we can get some more info on games we already know are in development. Not to mention, I don't we've heard very much on that Yarn Yoshi game either.

Yeah I doubt we'll get a major one, but I wouldn't be shocked to get a notmajor one.

At this point I also wouldn't be totally shocked to get a vet reveal during the direct, even if it is only regional. Nothing to keep him from updating the vet on the site and with E3 fast approaching, I'd imagine he's getting ready to reveal all the "obvious" characters.

I find it best to only expect a direct every other month or so (this should put our next one to mid April. To allow leway, let's say mid-April to early-May). If there's one sooner, then yay.

...Realistically, we should only get one more before e3...

Worldwide Directs usually happen once every two months. However, smaller regional ones can happen at any month if I recall correctly....

I doubt Yoshi would be revealed at a small direct, he'll probably just get shown on March 14th, with

"Pic of the day. Look, Yoshi. blablablah Yoshi game is out."

While March 19th's end of Year of Luigi really hints at something happening, Directs seem to be mostly usually bimonthly, so lack of one wouldn't be especially surprising.

Well the Game Developer's Convention is next month. Maybe we could expect something from that? *shrugs*

Well to be fair, the GDC is a bit more worth paying attention to than the VGX. A lot of things are more worth paying attention to than the VGX.
That makes sense, but I still think it's going to be over-hyped by everyone and result in mass disappointment (as with everything.)

"We'll totes get like three or four newcomers and eight more veterans."

Unfortunately I'm sure we'll get a few of those. We can at least hope they'll be the minority.

If the people willing to keep up with Sakurai's BS are the majority, then we've got a problem.

Sakurai's BS? No wait, forget I asked, surely it's just something that'd derail the thread to hell and back.

To be on topic, we had a general worldwide Direct for October, November and December, that's three months in a row. It seems more likely that they fit Directs in whenever they have enough content to do so, rather than have a set schedule of every 2nd month. We could potentially see one in March, but it still won't guarantee us anything Smash Bros. related, we didn't get any Smash news in the November Direct after all. Then there's of course GDC, which Sakurai and Nintendo are familiar with, though we still don't know if Sakurai will be there.

If Sakurai was to appear at GDC, would anyone be mad if he didn't show any returning veterans or newcomers and instead focused on showing videos of some of the pictures he's discussed, such as new Assist Trophies or new mechanics either on ledge or jab -> finish. I would love that possibly even more than a character...

Anything Smash related beyond the typical PotD would be as much as we could expect for. I'd be real pleased with some uncut game footage, maybe an explanation on some single player stuff.

I haven't payed much attention to GDC in the past, isn't event I recall a whole lot of new stuff being presented since it's more of a industry event then a consumer oriented affair.

Worldwide Directs happen every 2 months. Is it possible that we could get a Direct this month? Yes. However, that Direct won't be hosted by Iwata and won't announce any newcomers in it.
Even with GDC in March, I doubt that we will get any major Smash announcement from there. I don't even think that it's worth a Direct too.

Nope, the fanbase has to calm the crap down, or at least the Western side does.

There was extended maintenance earlier this month, but maybe this time it'll be a Direct!!

Is it an International Direct?
Also, I don't understand how a maintenance means a direct, could someone explain that to me?
I believe the logic is that a maintenance implies some sort of game or demo that would be added to the eShop after the direct revealed it.

Yes, and it seems these 'extended maintenance' thingies have been happening before every recent Direct. They don't necessarily mean there will be a Direct, but when there is one, there usually IS a maintenance.

Anywho, people seem to be assuming this one might mean a 3DS-focused Direct. We'll see.

Like i said earlier, we did get maintenance this month already with nothing, so this could be a good sign. Why would they need to do more maintenance when nothing too big has happened?

If there's no reveal tomorrow, then a reveal next week is almost guaranteed. I mean, since E3 there hasn't been a month WITHOUT a confirmation, has there?

That fact, paired with the possible Direct could mean good news.

Correct- every month since E3, we've seen at least one veteran/newcomer:
June-Villager/Megaman/WFT
July- Olimar
August- Luigi
September- Peach/Toon Link
October- Sonic
November- Marth
December- Rosalina/Zelda
January- Dedede/Lucario
February- Little Mac/Diddy

And since December the trend seemed to be of 2 reveals per month, but now we only have a week left in March and there's been no reveal.

Either one comes tomorrow or next week.

Now that we've gone over a month with no character, I'm less inclined to think that there won't be an update in March. Maybe they're planning to end the drought with something big.

It may just be Yoshi running late as far as we know, but what do I know? There's 1 week left and 1 Monday left after that to show something. I mean this isn't the first time there's been no Nintendo Direct in a month, implying there won't be one this upcoming week. Usually directs are announced a day or 2 prior to its presentation, so we must be ready.
