Who to main?

I don't know if this is the right spot to post this, but I've been wondering if I should post this and if so, where I should post this down. Either way, here goes, and I guess I'll be told where to put this otherwise. >_<

I'm having a lot of trouble really deciding who I want to play as a main the new Smash Bros. As stated before, I'm looking to go competitive. How far that goes, I have yet to see, I'm hoping to at least place somewhat in high end tournaments, though realistically I'm not expecting to win any big tournaments against names. Even so, I've been having incredible difficulties deciding what I'm going to play...

I've settled on five potential picks and may end up trying to learn them all: Charizard, Greninja, Peach, Kirby, and Donkey Kong. Out of those five, I've played more Greninja but because I haven't done much competitive, I'm not sure what I'm looking for to evaluate and figure out what suits my playstyle, how to analyze my own playstyle and work it around to match a character (and vice versa). I guess one could potentially call me a "filthy casual" for saying something like that but still.

I would appreciate if anyone has advice or would like to share their own experiences as to who they found who they main. I'm willing to try various options and maybe the answer is "just play who you have the most fun with" which I figure is what it's going to be. Can't hurt to try and find answers though.

If you want to have a good shot at winning, it's best go with a high/top tier character that you feel comfortable with. In some players' cases they're just that much better with a mediocre/bad character than the rest of the cast and end up sticking, but for the most part you'll always do best with a higher tier character for obvious reasons.

For now there are no agreed tiers but there is a general consensus on some of the stronger characters. Just keep playing and see who you click best with. I would say Greninja is a good choice out of what you've listed anyway, definitely a capable character.
