Who really is G-man (Half Life Series)

Who is the mysterious G-man from the Half-Life Series??

(Left) G-man in HL 1. (Right) G-man in HL 2...

Hmmm lets see the protagonist in both games....

Dr. Gordon Freeman

UHHH wait G-man...
Gordon Freeman
G ordon FreeMAN

Please ignore the language:

Quite a resemblence..

C'mon they both have Green eyes...

and isnt it strange that G-man always knows where he is... And he can dissapear anytime he wants. Yes we already know he from the future.

i am not the only one who thinks this....

In his suitcase he has a gun....

He is going back in time to fix the problems he has made. He never lets Gordon Freeman die because if he dies, so does himself. Even though he does seem responsible for everything that happens throughout the series....

Just a theory...

Opinions??

It is quite the theory, but I doubt that it is true; Why would Gordon be so sinister, especially towards the resistance and threaten to kill Gordon at the end of HL:1. I know that decision isn't canon, but still, it doesn't make any sense.

Those pictures look nothing alike besides the goatee and glasses. They just have the same facial position. The Gman is no more Gorden then President Bush is a monkey.

So you ARE saying that they are the same, Eeyor?

Also, the Gman in HL1 has blue eyes. The developers changed it to green apperantly.

It was changed to Green to make him more alien-like because he is an alien and an agent for the alien force that invaded. Gordon was how the forces were able to take over when he joined. Had he not joined, and let himself die by the massive forces, the G-Man would have died because they lost their main weapon. Now that he has begun rebelling he is a marked man and is only protected by Gorgons (I think) who Gordon freed. ("the one Free Man")

Honestly, the theory makes no sense.

Gorgons? You mean the Vortigaunts, right?

And I'm not necessarily sure about him being against the Combine, since he was aparently hired out to them (Breen near the end says "What, you didn't think your contract was open to the highest bidder?") but I doubt he's working for them too, concidering how he knew Gordon would throw a spanner in the works. I personally think he's some sort of Neutral party, looking out for number G.

That and he's really a Steelix.

EDIT: Just thought I'd add, that in Hl1 G-man was talking about his employers and so on at the end, yet in Hl2 at the end he talks about himself looking at interesting offers, which means he could have left whatever organisation he was with at the start.

Yea, I get names from like Hitchhiker's Guide and Half-Life mixed up and I was thinking of the Medusa characters. I think G-Man's whole motive has yet to be revealed, but he has chosen Gordon as his pet.

There will only be 3 Half-Life games, not including any expansions, so I assume we will learn his exact role then.

Now, what I want to know, is if the G-Man is Gordon Freeman from the future, and took him to keep him alive and safe, why did he also do the same - or similar, at least - to Barney Calhoun and Corporal Adrian Shephard? Obviously, he certainly can't be all three of them from the future. And only one of the two was important in Half-Life 2, so why take Shephard at all?

He didn't. Shepard was decidedly too dangerous and was locked away in stasis for safety.

Gman never actually rescued Barney or Shephard. You only see him once in Blue Shift, and he seems to ignore you for the most part. As for Shephard, Gman only saved him because Shephard supposedly reminded Gman of himself, and if you play the Training, it's heavily implied that Gman was the one who arranged for Shephard to go to Black Mesa.

I remember reading somewhere that Shephard might come back in a game, but I doubt it's true...

There are occasions where G-man does activly save Shepard tough, once place there's rising acid/radioactive ooze and he opens a door for you, and later on opens the door in a trash compactor.

The G-Man definately arranged it so Shephard went to Black Mesa. That's not a question. As Mic said, he also ensures his survival on multiple occasions. But why?

Also, Barney ended up in Half-Life 2. He probably should have died in Black Mesa. G-Man took him at the end of Blue Shift. I see a connection.

It was explained multiple times in the thread.

Honestly, even judging him as a human being, Gman looks about twenty years older than GF, is half as built, and is a foot taller. His features are more skeletal.

And the name thing... it's a coincidence. "Gordon" is a good scientist name, and "Freeman" is a good action hero name. Since Half-Life's hero is both, well, there you go.

Gman is a popular underground term for many people. The men in black. Illuminati. Any government men, really, but especially those that'd be up on conspiracies.

I'm guessing hes an antagonistic force rather than a neutral or friendly one since *SPOILERS* vortigaunts stopped him at the beginning of episode oneand they seem more friendly to freeman. plus gordon doesnt rele get a say (pun XD) in wht happens to him. im alsothinking hes definitely using him for personal gain due to the smug way in which he takes him into and out of stasis
