Who is the secret character?

Look at that screen.
In the top right is a certain character that I cant make out.
Obviously the screen is blurred purposefully, but we can still guess.
the top row of pixelation is a series of boxes that are character pictures in the selection screen.
The top right face is way more distinguishable from all the rest.
So, who is it?
My guesses:
-Metaknight
-Joust
-Tom Nook
-Birdo (most likely guess)

Those series of blocks resemble a dragon's head. They're also a purple-ish hue. That can mean only one thing.

Guys, guys...you have it all wrong. That picture isn't blurred; Sakurai simply decided to include more 8bit character this time. You don't recognize them because they were so tiny and they were obscure characters and you guys weren't true fans to play every Nintendo game in existance.
