This is a screenplay I started writing before college classes got cranked up here at UT--I felt like writing something new and thought of this in like 20 minutes, haha. Hope you all enjoy it--part two will be on the way soon.

(A young man, roughly twenty years old, sits on a grassy field overlooking a lake. He sits with his arms extended behind him, supporting his weight as he leans back slightly. His white hair sparkles every now and then as it catches the sunlight. He sports a light blue shirt and black shorts that extend just beyond his kneecaps. He stares out into the water with a blank look on his face.)

VOICE
There you are, Jaye. (A man, looking about late-thirties, walks next to the sitting boy. He has dingy red hair, almost as if the redness in his hair began to fade away by the sun. His right hand is covered by a black glove. The man carries an air about him that makes him seem much older—he seems worn out from life.) I thought I would find you here.

JAYE
(Without looking away from the lake or changing his blank expression) Does anyone else know of this place, Franz?

FRANZ
(He changes his focus from Jaye to the lake. A tinge of disappointment hinges on his words.) No, no one.

JAYE
I know I’m not supposed to leave, but…sometimes I just want to get things off my mind is all, really. And, well…you understand why. That’s why you’ve been my Keeper the past twenty years. (Mutters a slight laugh.) It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. Sometimes I wonder if—

FRANZ
No more of this, Jaye. You and I both know our roles.

JAYE
Yes, of course, our “roles.” (His expression somehow gets even blanker as he stares deeper into the water.) I see the village people go about their lives every day from The Hold and wonder if I could ever live the way they do.

FRANZ
We’ve been over this before, Jaye. You know why you’re not allowed to interact with anyone from the village.

JAYE
Except for you, Franz. I’m grateful to you that you’ve let me express myself like this. (Pauses a beat as he continues to stare at the lake. As he speaks once more, his face stiffens up a bit.) But I just know there’s more. (Franz lets out a small sigh.) I wonder what it’s like to hold a girl’s hand, to…to confide in them. (His eyes widen.) I’ve seen their eyes when they walk past The Hold, Franz. When they look into the eyes of someone they hold dear…I think that every time that treasured one peers into them, they find something new about themselves.

FRANZ
(Puts his right hand on Jaye’s shoulder.) And that’s why you protect us all, Jaye. Without you to shelter our village, feelings like that wouldn’t exist.

JAYE
Franz, what is that feeling called exactly?

FRANZ
Love.

JAYE
Have you ever been in love, Franz?

FRANZ
(Looks down at the ground.) Yes, a long time ago.

JAYE
(Suddenly looks up at Franz.) Really? What happened?

FRANZ
(Doesn’t look at Jaye.) She was murdered in front of my eyes.

JAYE
(Gasps.) I’m…I’m sorry, Franz. I didn’t know.

FRANZ
(Pauses.) We should head back to The Hold. If we stay out here any longer, we’ll both get in trouble.

JAYE
You’re right. Thank you again for letting me out, Franz. (Gets up. Franz turns around and starts walking away from the lake. Jaye freezes up and stares at the lake. His body shivers.)

FRANZ
Jaye? What is it?

JAYE
(His body continues to shake as his eyes enlarge.) There’s something in the water.
(A figure leaps out of the water. It lands on the ground in front of Jaye and Franz. When the figure lands, it is revealed to be a man clad in a tight black aqua suit of sorts. He quickly pulls a gun-like object and fires two black spheres towards Franz. The spheres stop before they hit Franz and fly up into the sky until they are out of sight.)

MAN
So the intel is true after all. Talbecca’s protected by an emote. The kid, I’m assuming.

JAYE
(His normally blue eyes have turned dark red. His shaking has stopped. He doesn’t blink or even seem to move as he speaks.) I will not allow you to bring harm to this village.

(The grass at the man’s feet begins to crawl up his legs, ensnaring him.)

MAN
And you even have control over nature, too? My, my, you DO have a nasty temper!

JAYE
(Water from the lake begins to levitate towards Jaye’s left hand. It freezes on contact, creating a long spear of ice over his hand. His right hand twitches uncontrollably as it grows larger. Black hairs sprout from his right hand and completely envelop it as his fingernails become longer.) You have ten seconds before the grass covers your mouth. I give you that long for your final words.

MAN
(Looks at Franz.) How do you feel about being the Keeper of the one who murdered your wife, you traitor?

JAYE
(His eyes turn back to blue. The grass instantly stops crawling up the man’s body.) I’m…a murderer?

(Franz remains silent.)

MAN
(Laughs loudly.) That’s right! You killed in cold blood, you demon! Why do you think you’re locked in The Hold? Why do you think of all the people to be your Keeper, your Lord picked Franz? Monsters like you can’t control their own powers without a Keeper, you idiot! (Laughs more.) This is really too good!

(Jaye falls on his knees. His face is completely devoid of all thoughts and emotions. The cloudless sky turns to a harsh gray as thunder booms overhead. The thunder mixes with the obnoxious laughter of the man. Franz grabs his glove with his left hand and looks into the sky, then at Jaye.)

JAYE
(Looks up at the man. Jaye’s face still shows no sign of emotion of thought. As their eyes lock, a bolt of thunder hits the ground between them.) I have to kill you now. Implode—

(Franz takes off his glove, revealing a shining golden hand. He runs over and slams the hand against the back of Jaye’s head. Jaye collapses on the ground. The sky clears. The man just stands there stammering—he knows he was milliseconds away from dying.)

FRANZ
(Pulls out a cell phone from his pocket.) Hostile captured at Lake Aquinos. The emote was calmed before things got out of hand. (Pauses.) Yes, of course. (Franz walks over to the man and touches the grass on his body with his golden hand, causing the grass to crumble away. Franz speaks as he covers his right hand with his black glove.) You’re free. Our Lord instructed me to send you back to your village. (Looks the man in his eyes.) And I send you with a personal warning: If you ever return here, I won’t stop him from killing you.

(The man nods his head slightly and falls into the lake behind him. Franz walks over to Jaye, still collapses, and touches the back of his head with his gloved hand. Jaye rises to his feet.)

JAYE
(Looks at the lake.) Franz…is it true?

FRANZ
(Looks at the lake as well.) Yes.

JAYE
So I really am a murderer.

FRANZ
And that’s why you cannot be allowed to ever fall in love.

JAYE
(A tear rolls down his cheek.) I understand.

FRANZ
Don’t feel sorry for me. My wife was ill anyway.

(Jaye starts to say something but bites his tongue.)

FRANZ
I have to bring you back to The Hold now, Jaye.

JAYE
Yes sir, I’m coming.
