Just an interesting point of discussion that I would like to hear from the community about. For me, I feel like Great Bay, Poke Floats, and Rainbow Cruise are close for doubles, and that there really aren't any close to singles. The closest would have to be Kongo Jungle 64, and that would only be legal in a world where Ganondorf can catch up to Peach.

OBVIOUSLY, these stages are all garbage, but this is all just theoretical.

I think Icicle mountain has a shot at both

no but Kongo 64 for singles, maybe bring back Mute City
I hear they are working on taking some of the visual effects out of FoD for it to be a doubles map, but it will be modded so I don't know.

I'd say Kongo 64 is closest to legal for singles because it is currently a legal counterpick for doubles and Japes is closest to being legal in singles because nothing else is close.

And also, there's a pretty consistant hazard on it.

To be honest, Brinestar is the least broken out of the illegal stages. However it has the lava hazard so it is pretty dump to play on and nobody enjoys it so legalizing it will make pretty much nobody happy.

Kongo jungle 64 looks like a better stage, but a good player can run away from Ice climbers, Ganon, Link, and Samus for a long time as floaties and fox. Jigglypuff can shark the entire game. It's just too big for singles.

Doubles could have FoD legal if it weren't for lag.

For stages that could be legal with slight differences: DK64 without the barrel and two top platforms (moving plats are fine), Brinestar without lava, Green Greens without the blocks and sides pushed in, mute city without cars and grabable ledges on the main platform, Rainbow Cruise without stage transition, Corneria without hazards and rear thruster/standable gun, Kongo jungle without barrel and camping rock and more centered to the blast zone, Yoshi Island 64 without clouds and top platform, peach's castle without center wall and hazards/buttons.

Bonus: PS without Fire/Rock transformations would be a neutral, and without any transformations would be arguably the most neutral stage in the game.

I wouldn't do Brinstar even without lava because you can alter the stage by attacking it.

Nah, Japes and Brinstar seem close to counterpicks, I would think, They shouldn't be counterpicks obviously but still, they are decent compared to the rest of them imo.
