It's probably most similar to Brawl, but you know, I'm not playing any of them again before release. I want to go in fresh, so I don't have to UNLEARN things.

I'd say you're better off just practicing spacing and fundamentals in any smash game before this game, but if I had to go with one, Brawl is definitely the way to go because Smash 4 seems to be closer to the Brawl side of things.

I'd say brawl that way you feel like it moves faster when you play Smash 4 rather than slower.

According to all of Zipzo's feedback, basically, it plays like a unique game (go figure, just like all the others). Ground speed is fast, air speed is less so but still faster than Brawl, combos are possible, tech is less than Melee, throws are kinda 64ish, shields are fast but weak, characters are cool.

Just go play your favorite and practice the basics, they're the main thing that transfers over.

I don't think practicing for Brawl will do anything IMHO, this game looks and feels completely different.

I came here to read comments about how the game is closer to Brawl, and is therefore bad.....

I am disappointed......

You should go to GameFAQs for illogical arguments. You won't be disappointed there...

No one said it's bad here, they were just giving him an idea of what version is best to practice for smash 4!

Although I don't agree with practicing Brawl for Smash 4 honestly, I'll just wait for the game to come out.

I agree that any Smash Game is fine to play for practice if you just want to cover the basics that should transfer. That said, I would lean Melee; easier to slow down a tad than speed up for the new one. Also just getting you thinking and reacting faster in Melee is great in general. Being able to move/think faster would be a benefit.

I read from Zipzo somewhere that it kinda felt close to Project M in some ways, so I'll go with that. Definitely seems like it's own game though.

So that explains it. When I saw the number of votes for Project M my immediate thoughts were "What the ****?"

Brawl is the best way to prepare. Smash 4 is a extention of brawl.
Dude. Really. Are you ****ing serious? After all the information Zipzo posted that very clearly said "GUYS, IT'S NOT BRAWL", you're still gonna harp on about this utter ********? We even had some video footage that made it look pretty clearly non-Brawl. He even said (paraphrased) "I played Brawl to prepare for the game and now I feel kinda bad about it, because it's very definitely not Brawl".

Where is the dislike button?

It isn't brawl i'm saying it is best to play the game it is closest to. Smash 4 is it's own game but still a extention of brawl since it has alot of it's ground work. It isn't a bad thing. I'm hyped to play the game now thanks to that info.

I apologize for my lack of knowledge, i'm fairly new to this community and I really don't know who Zipzo is (or what he did to prove his point about this). If someone can send me a link to Zipzo's post highlighting that, i'd be happy to look into it.

Not sure if the Twitch video is still up or if someone quoted everything that he said during it, but that quote I paraphrased was from that. As for what Zipzo did: he played a demo of the final build of the game at a store in Japan, and posted his findings in a thread here. You can also find much of the information documented on reddit here: http://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/2foxur/if_zipzo_starts_dropping_info_tonight_this_is/

"Overall speed of the game. Running speed is fast feeling a bit like Melee where aerial game feels like Brawl being slightly floaty."

So the ground game is basically like melee and arial game is much like brawl. I get it now, thank you guys for sharing the link.

Well, you do know Brawl is an extension of Melee? All the assets and tools were brought over from Melee for Brawl- and has since then been carried to Smash 4. Essentially, Smash 4 has Melee is its core DNA. But regardless, it is still going to be a great game with the amount of fan service, music, stages and characters. The "competitive" aspect is that side of fries you get when you order a burger. At least, that's how I view it :3

I'd say Brawl for practicing fundamentals (particularly spacing and reads), and Melee for practicing combos. You can get away with having bad fundamentals in Project M so I'd avoid that.

Well, kinda simple and weird to answer:

melee gets me ready for anything because it's my origin of loving games.

SSB64 is too old for me to enjoy (by that I mean if I was at the same age at the context and time of release, my view on it would be very different).

SSBB: nope because I'm too hyped for ssb4 getting more repped for the Paper Mario series that should be done in brawl.

Plus, I dislike the artstyle of brawl.

Anyway, I'm playing spm to get ready for ssb4 and handle the hype.

Honestly, I would probably assert that you should prepare with your favorite Smash game. However, as for myself, I do not have a favorite Smash game. Melee is the closest iteration to claim that title, so to prepare? My sister and I decided to "rate" the entire cast of each and every Smash with arbitrary values pertaining to: fun, performance, move-set, tools and utilities. Fun and performance are self explanatory, how fun do we have with the character and how well do we typically do with the character. Move-set is fairly standard as well, the oddest notion about it is that we do not count specials, we save those for "tools and utilities" which also includes anything unique about the character such as Yoshi's shield or double jump armor, Kirby's extra jumps or Luigi's slide. Basically, we go into a "four way mirror" free-for-all with level 9 computers (to test out every move the character offers). It is great fun!

Now that we are done with that, we are alternating between Brawl and Project M because I want to play Lucas and Wolf as they have a chance to be omitted from Smash 4's roster. The inherent problem? I hate Lucas in Project M and I hate Wolf in Brawl, so therefore we switch constantly.

Larry said that the game was between Smash 64 and Brawl, so I've been going with those, but mostly with Brawl.

The game I've been practicing with lately is Street Fighter 4 on the 3ds. The most important thing to me is getting used to playing fighting games on a handheld. It's actually helping quite a lot, I feel. If you want to practice for the 3ds, I'd definitely recommend it. Then after I get the 3ds version, I'll just play that until the Wii U version comes out

I don't think any particular Smash game will be extremely useful for preparation. From what I know, the game is unique. Just like the rest.
