Which game influenced Smash Bros more, Melee or Brawl? Both games influenced the series in important ways, ranging from veterans, to game modes, to popularity. Smash 64 won't count.

I liked marvel vs capcom 2 better but its alright.
Yeah but that game came along after Smash was thought of, also the crossover idea was clearly inspired by Marvel vs Capcom, but Nintendo took it to a new level using their IPs

I seen a video angry video game nerd about the nes accessories era
Well the Rob accessory is so terrible and poorly aged he made an entire episode out of it and it was so complex he made TWO 30 minute videos explaining how he made it.

I have to say Brawl, because of all of the single player modes that it had. That game was perfect if you had no siblings or anyone else to play it with you. Based on what we've seen of SSB4, it seems like a lot of Brawl's single player aspects are returning (sadly not SSE though).

If I had to pick, Melee would win. Not only did they intoduce trophies, but they gave us the characters we know and love, like Marth, Bowser, Peach, Zelda, Sheik, Ganondorf, Ice Climbers, G&W. And it also gave us other game modes, that to this day, show no sign of being taken out.

Overfired
Melee introduced:
  • Trophies
  • An Adventure Mode
  • The multi-man mode (along with many other stadium additions)
  • Event matches
  • Special mode (giant, tiny, invisible etc.)
  • Side B moves
  • Air dodging
  • Power shielding
  • Wall jumping
  • Greatly more diversified aerial moves (seriously, I think Ness was the only 64 character who didn't have a sex kick for his nair)
  • Charged smash attacks
Brawl Introduced:
  • Sticker collecting
  • Tripping (which was universally hated)
  • Footstooling
  • The Subspace Emissary (which had very mixed feedback)
  • A new airdodge
  • Gliding
  • A stage builder
  • An online mode (though not very stable)
Personally it seems to me (although I could be biased) that Melee introduced a lot more gameplay elements and modesthat are now staple in the smash series. A lot of Brawl's additions had very mixed feedback, and it's clear that it's biggest addition (The Subspace Emissary) isn't returning. Overall I would definitely say that Melee had a lot more influence.
