Which controllers are superior?

I have been using an official silver Gamecube controller to play Smash since Melee, but I have been looking into getting a new one because my current controller is getting old. I was wondering if the non-official ones on Amazon and eBay work just as well, or if I should make the investment for an official one. The look of the controller doesn't matter to me because I will probably end up painting it anyway.

My biggest worry is that I'll end up buying a knock-off one and it won't work as well as the official ones. It could all be superficial, that's why I wanted feedback.
