Where's the love for the old new characters?

I remember long ago when Pokemon Trainer was announced, and everyone freaked. Sonic was announced, and the internet nearly exploded.

And now I see smash veterans like Ganon or Falco far more than I see these two in any video or any topic. We've all forgotten about these characters, and we've all forgotten what a blessing it is to even HAVE Sonic in this game. And now nobody cares. :p

For some reason, Ike seems really popular, even though when he was announced he was met with mixed reactions. I suppose the lack of enthusiasm then allowed him to remain interesting throughout the months up to the release.

Thoughts on this?

People just like playing their old favorites.

Its not that these new characters aren't popular, simply that people who played Falco and other returning vets, want to see how much different they play. What skills, combos, mindgames from Melee still apply.

Kind of the same reason why with all of the Street Fighter sequels, Ryu and Ken are still the most popular. People like new characters, but they always enjoy playing old favorites.
