Where did Sakurai say there would be no clones?

I see people getting mad at this, but I don't recall him saying that.
And people have said that he never said that.

He never said it. Someone said he said it (a LONG time ago) and people ran with the idea.

Yep, I was arguing about it just before, and I'm sure he's never actually said it, because I havn't seen any sources that back up the claim.

He said way way ago that some characters wouldn't return. This, in turn, telephone gamed into clones won't return, then telephoned into no more clones.

It's all silly, if you ask me.
I think that pretty much sums up every assumption about Brawl that people have ever made.

From new characters we got really no clones. Toon Link really isn't even that clone anymore since they changed Link's specials. I have to admit that Lucas and Wolf are/sound like they are clones, but I have to say that all movesets clone old moveset in way or another, just adding own flavors to mix.

Similarities in movesets is unavoidable, but they all are unique in way or another.
