When your GCN controller gets worn...

Does it "stick" in a certain direction? Here's what I mean by this.

When I try to put it in a :GCN: position, my cursor on the character select screen moves up slightly as if I'm tilting slightly upwards. And more recently, when I want to do a jab, I do an up-tilt.

Doing the :GCX::GCY::GCStart: thing doesn't help at all. Do I need to get a new/refurbished controller?

You can try opening it up to clean it (Kadano has a tutorial on that somewhere, I think (if need be)), which can help for a while, but in my experience that sticky control-stick is a good sign that the end is nigh.

Yeah, my old platinum one sticks to the right a lot. I just do the :GCX::GCY::GCStart: and It fixes itself lol. I use a white one now tho, because the old one is just too worn out. I could probably still use it maybe.

It's too bad. Not just for Melee and other Smash games, but I can't play games like Sonic Colors that are so much better with that controller. Thankfully, I can buy a refurbished GCN controller from a used gaming store in my area, and the PDP Fight Pad, while not perfect, works as a suitable substitute for Classic Controller supported games.

Here's a video I found if you're a hands-on hardware guy:

Well, What about the old controllers exactly is so much better than the white ones? I like both equally, I'm just not sure if I want to get a new controller/refurbish my old one till I'm sure.

As far as I know just a longer cord thats the only real difference I can tell and also the paint finish is different from the originals like it feels like a matte finish rather than a glossy one.

There is a metal rod they took out of the L and R buttons with the white & Sm4ash controllers, causing some say it makes the shoulder buttons feel "sticky" if you push them in at certain angles.

All of the newer, white Gamecube controllers come with the type-3 plastic joystick box (see Kadano's thread). In my opinion, this is the best one of the three. It's a bit stiffer and does not have as much play in it compared to the other designs. All of Nintendo's Classic Controller Pro's have this as well. In terms of functionality, it's one of the best joystick boxes I've come across.
