When to use the double jump

Ok on first glance this may look like a noob question.. BUT I SWEAR ITS NOT. Anyway we all know that falcos preferred form of movement is shffling shling, wding, short hopping and all that stuff in general. However sometimes I am inclined to use the double jump as a fakeout (jump in jump out waveland back etc. or double jump a spike, or into a waveland on a platform you get the idea). The problem with this is that it leaves falco more vulnerable and he can get gimped since he looses his second jump for recovery. So I was wondering when and HOW you use the double jump selectively, and so as not to get hurt by it.

Please don't come in here saying "OMG U DOUBLE JUMP LOLZ Y DON'T YOU SHL INSTEAD? ROFLCOPTER". This is more a question of a matter of preference of when to use a very situational tactic and so that you don't get killed from it. Any veteran help from the likes of mathos, forward, shiz, b-will or pcchris(who is never on these boards except to laugh at our noob topics anyway) is more than welcome, since you have experience with this.

Oh yeah one minor related addition to the question, when should you double jump waveland on to a platform as opposed to just straight wavelanding onto it from one jump, I'm not sure how I should be using them interchangeably (though the double jump waveland is easier since falcos first jump has funky timing, but no johns I'm pretty comfortable with both). Thanks!

I usually just mix it up between full and double jump against fast fallers, as your spike shine combos can have differing heights. But with floaties like Peach and Marth I typically don't double jump into spike shine combos. In the realm of mindgames however you should randomly use double jump and full jump, but I wouldn't advance with a double jump.

You'd be surprised how often a double jump won't hurt you. But if you're uncomfortable doing it don't do it near the edge.

Woah just realized you're talking about a different situation then me. So short hops into double jump advances I do every now and then. Its useful but typically higher level players won't be fooled by just the double jump; you'll have to incorporate a waveland or something special for a mindgame.

lol "something special" mathos? Should I say "HEY LOOK OVER THERE" and then unplug their controller? Well I don't use double jump very frequently and when I do it sometimes pays off but I have been caught while doing it and it sends me flying without my jump for recover, and falco needs every bit of help he can get.

i use it pretty often. for example on FD, i use it alot just make sure to not get hit. when i land i usually do a waveland or more often, a laser as i land into a forward shuffled nair or something. so thats jump in, jump out, laser as you land, shuffle/SHLapproach. other than that just shoot lasers! :p

instead of making a new thread I figured I'd add a question ontop of this one-
I usually play against people who don't often short-hop while playing these people I use full jump alot and I can't necessarily shhfl. ... my question is what should I do so I don't get the full jump into my muscle memory/ make it a habit because I see it as a problem when going form them to people who also shffl or at least sh? I can not just stop playing with these people because they are my good friends and are fun to play with because Ironically while having no tech skill have ridiculous mind games, LOL. SO any suggestions on how to make sure when I'm playing higher lvl players I don't forget to shffl and how to punsih my full jumping friends instead of shffling under there attacks and feeling like I missed an oppotunity? Thanks

well just keep your chops up so to speak. Just spend a little time every day practicing your technical skill on a level 1 so that you still are comfortable short hopping and whatnot.
