When to Short hop and when to djc?

Hi everyone ive played lucas for 4 months and i can do anything except djc hes the only character i play and i want to learn how to do it. Although i dont know when to djc or shorthop like when i shorthop and i get my combo of i can rack up 60 percent easy with nair dair and sair but with the djc what does it actually do and when is it best to do it
