When should you approach with SHFFLs?

So from what I know, I think you can't just keep retreating as Falco because a huge part of Falco's game is to attack to get combos started and contest in neutral. My question is, when do you guys move forward with a SHFFL? Do you look for any cues?

After they show that they're reacting to the lasers that you're hosing them with.

Remember that SHFFL aerials aren't your only option. If they're not dealing with the lasers well at all, approach with them, ending probably with a laser shine. Since shine starts like every combo in existence, you're in a great position. If the shine hits a shield, either JC grab out of shine or go for some safe shine nair pressure.

If you're dedicated to SHFFLing, you can do nair a little bit earlier, be sure to get your L-Cancel, and maybe move a bit so you can land a shine or utilt after that. Alternately, you could do a SHFFL late dair shine, which is a technique I'm currently working on. It's a lot of stylistic preference, but basically remember that you have plenty of options.

Heck, if you want to wall them out with lasers and wait for them to make a crappy decision as an approach and punish that, just go with what works.

SHFFLs are some of your main approaches. Keep in mind however, that laser jab, laser grab, etc are still a thing. I wouldn't recommend laser shine, but if you can do it go for it. Once they start reacting badly to your lasers, you want to approach, while shooting lasers. You have amazing approaches, work at it and it'll become second-nature.
