A lot of people have been talking about how the development of Smash 4 is better or worse than Brawl so let's weigh out what's working in their favor and what's working against them so we've got a better idea.

FOR
* Larger team overall
* No cut scene heavy story mode
* No ongoing 3rd Party debates, can sort those characters out quicker
* Bigger emphasis on character balance
* Aid from Namco Bandai
* Games don't have to be releases simultaneously

Against
* Large roster to transfer from Brawl
* Two games to work on.
* Higher level of detail needed.
* Smaller time scale
* More work needed to balance cast.

Any more to add?

FOR:
Teams from Namco Bandai, who are experienced with making fighting games
Bigger focus on balancing characters
3DS version delayable if necessary

For:
  • Not too many pressures for third party characters. People wanted Mega Man and Sonic and we got them; Snake is unknown and a Namco rep is inevitable in my eyes.
  • No story mode to eat up a large chunk of the development time.
  • Namco Bandai helping out could potentially lead into better balancing.
  • DLC and patches in the future. While Sakurai and his team will focus on getting as much content in SSB4 as possible, they can use DLC and patching in the future to add in characters that were supposed to be in the games and fix balancing issues that will arise post-release.
Against:
  • Reworking Brawl's roster and adding newcomers.
  • Working on two versions at the same time. (though they benefit from releasing these games on a separate release date)
  • Time constraints could be a major issue where the game could get rushed at certain points.
  • Balancing in general as the roster is very huge. We may see a case like Pikachu in 64, Fox and Falco in Melee, and Meta Knight in Brawl.

Seems like they gotta work to pump out characters to coincide with game releases. (Toon Link, Sonic)

Makes me wonder if this is why they are direct copies of their brawl incarnations. Maybe they'll alter the character's later on.

For:

-No 3rd party crap
-Namco Bandai
-Timeframe. No set release date.
-No SSE
-Know what the heck Brawl did wrong and why.

Against:

-Two versions, but they wouldn't have taken it up if they can't handle it.
-Sakurai logic phails.
-Balance, I seriously doubt link will EVER be high tier.
