What's with all the third-party craziness?

Ok maybe it's because I have been a Nintendo fan since the late 80's but I just don't get why so many people are wanting to have all of these Non Nintendo characters show up in Brawl. I mean Sonic works for me because it is almost poetic after their decade rivalry. Even Snake I am not fond of having in it but I can deal with him because he is a badass.

But I just don't get why people are hoping for all of these far-off third party characters. It kind of takes away from the reason why the original was developed.

It's because they desperately want their favorite characters in the game, even though they have no chance of getting in (i.e., Cloud, Master Chief).

To be honest, I'm still a little disappointed that ANY 3rd parties are getting in. I'm a purist and wanted SSB to remain Nintendo-exclusive. Now we're going to have 30-35 Nintendo characters and 3-4 other characters who are thrown in the mix for some reason? Oh well.

My sentiments exactly. I mean Sega would be one thing because it's well...sega. Snake just looks way too out of place.

I don't mind it as long as they don't go completely overboard. Pick some third party characters that most gamers are famaliar with. (like they've done with Solid Snake)

I love Snake being in the game because I'm a MGS *****. I also love the fact the other people are bothered by him being in the game.

I hope Sonic gets in so I can beat the crap out of him with Mario and Snake.

I don't understand the mentality of NOT wanting third party characters in. When I was young and growing up on the NES, metal gear was just as "nintendoish" as playing Super Mario. So was Contra, also Castlevania. They were all "Nintendo games" to me.

Like everyone has said, Sonic is practically begging to be let in simply due to the historic rivalry.

It's like when Capcom and SNK finally came together. Two different companies, but both sort of had a similar groove (pun) when it came to a lot of things. What an awesome crossover!

On the other hand, I COMPLETELY understand the appall at the desire to see characters like Master Chief, the GTA "heroes," etc. These are so far away from being even remotely Nintendo related, or even slightly akin to the Smash Bros "vibe" that their presence would be absurd. Thankfully I'm sure there's absolutely no chance of something like that happening.

I think maybe what we should expect out of third party guest-stars are some sort of significant Nintendo association. Sonic and Snake both have these, albeit both in two different ways. Mega Man, for instance. But someone like Cloud? No way.

There are only going to be a few 3rd party characters and they have to meet certain guidelines. With that said, I don't think that their inclusion warrants some people thinking that its going to make brawl suck hardcore. If theres an item you dont like....turn it off. If theres a character you dont like...dont use them. Or you can complain about everything because we know how effective that is and how it will fix everything. After all, if brawl isnt just the way we want it without having played it first, then we know it will suck. So theres your check, go cash it.

For me at least, the problem is that they seem out of place given their numbers. If they could make a Nintendo vs Sega game with 25 characters from each side, that would be one thing. But Nintendo's cast of characters so thoroughly dominates anything by any other publisher that the 3rd party characters seem like they don't belong. Like I said, if it's 35 Nintendo characters and 3-4 others (and that's all it ever can be, really), it just seems stupid.

I hate how the fanboys went crazy when Snake was introduced, and it opened the floodgates and just went too far outta hand. I think Nintendo should really not consider too many third party characters when there are so many of Nintendo's own characters that, that while more obscure, are still more deserving (i.e. Captain Olimar, Ray 01, Lil Mac, and a host of others). Why are they more deserving? Because of the fact that they are NINTENDO characters, and IMO Nintendo characters should have priority over 3rd party ones always.

Yes, the fanboys like characters like Cloud and Sora ( don't get me wrong, they are great characters in own games) but they don't belong in every game, and IMO, not in brawl. and then you have the really stupid suggestions, like people who want Master Chief or Kratos, even those characters never have and never will have the slightest chance of making into Brawl. Its like when your watching a TV show and somebody does something so stupid that YOU feel embarrased even watching it. Its a feeling like that.

Sonic would be a better choice because of the whole rivalry thing (which some of the younger fanboys might not even be old enough to remember) but I don't think he'd be the best choice either. Personally, if they do pick 3rd party characters, they'd better be pretty **** synonomous with Nintendo. To me, that would me people like Mega Man, and Simon Belmont.

and if they put in a bunch of third party characters, over potential newcomers like Ridley, Dedede, and Diddy Kong, then that, would truly suck.

All third-party characters have to have appeared on a Nintendo console, so I have no problem including them as long as they are well-known. In my opinion, Smash is a Brawl between the greatest video game characters. Limiting the scope to Nintendo-made characters only hurts that vision.

Um, what?

Um, Pichu? Doctor Mario? There pretty great, yeah.
Also, smash BROTHERS. Brothers is used as a sort of metophorical way of saying there all "brothers" cause there all from the same basic company.
And hurt that vision? There are plenty of "crossover" games, which have spiderman and Mortal Kombat characters.
Smash is for Nintendo chaacters, and one or two VERY special appearances.

think about this: I believe sakurai is just sitting back and waiting for people/companies to offer thier characters in brawl, like how snake got in. so if no other 3rd parties come to him, there most likely wont be anymore 3rd parties. if 20 3rd party companies go up to him and offer thier characters, then guess what? there might be 20 third parties characters.
after all, even though 64 and melee was about "nintendo all stars" brawl is a much bigger game and can change all that. It's sakurai's game after all.

I never liked the idea of third party characters in Super Smash Bros. In fact I was sure he wouldn't put them in at all (because it is NINTENDO characters, you know?) When Snake was announced I got really disappointed and didn't know what to think.

...but hey, Sakurai made the last two games inconceivably fun. I know he knows what he's doing. There just isn't another game series out there that can provide so much fun for so long as the SSB series.

I will wait until I get the game to judge whether they were well implemented or not.

I still don't want Sonic in the game, though. XD

I'm hoping it's just Sonic and Snake. I can live with that,

This should probobly be in the character board though.

I agree that Snake looks out of place. I mean, watch the trailers...he's just not "cartoony" enough to be in Smash...he looks so serious and not..."nintendo" .
Ugh, how do I explain it...does ANYONE at all know what I'm trying to get at?

I really don't mind the 3rdParty Characters, just they have to fit nicely with the smash game itself. I could see Snake being in cuz he's a fighter...sonic would fit nicely because he's cartoony (too bad I have the ONE reason why Sonic could NEVER be in brawl. Pm me if you really want to know) , and Megaman would just be awesome =].

Nintendo could do with shedding that image. An image for all ages, from adults, to teens, to kids, that's more what they need.

And Samus does? I don't really consider her cartoony, but Metroid is a Nintendo franchise.

And as for the topic, personally I don't really mind cause these guys have good judgement. I wouldn't see some 3rd-partiers in there, but nothing way out there like Final Fantasy characters. Folks like Bomberman (yay), Megaman, and Sonic characters I wouldn't mind.

Uh, hello? KH: CoM? Boss AND summon? He's Nintendo-related...kinda-sorta. Plus, FF started on the NES, 'member? Who knows? Maybe he'll make it. But please, don't FORCE him to wear his AC garb. It was cool in KHII, but EVERYONE wearing it...

And @ Rikka: I normally don't say stuff this mean, but still, d'aim, have you been oblivious to all the flak Nintendo always got for Gamecube?! Nintendo's always been aimed at all, be it (of course) E, the new E10+, T, or even M(Eternal Darkness, anyone? >X) ), they make games for all. And they're just making a game for us. :)

The reason for all this third-party craziness are the fan's calling for characters to be in. To me, it seems to be a marketing strategy. For example, so many people want Sonic in the game. I'll admit I want Sonic in the game. There's a high chance that Sonic's going to be in the game. They put them in the game. Fans are happy and the business makes more money. However, having too many third-party characters would be weird, but it wouldn't hurt having 2-3 third-party characters to me. Oh, and Snake just popping up for Brawl was suprising. Didn't expect that. Well, at least MGS fans are going to be happy playing Snake.

Keep in mind that KH is also crossing over Disney and FF.
