ok so i've seen this tech used before... (ankoku i think used it)

basically (from how i've figured out how to do it) you dash at the edge, and right at the ledge you upb, then immediately hold towards the stage.

what it does is launches sheik's vanish horizontally (no vertical movement at all), and then warps you straight to the ledge.

there are some problems though... on "thin" stages (flying parts of halberd etc), you will actually reappear IN the stage rather than at the ledge, and die... i'm not sure if this is ALL "thin" stages... but it's still scary. to counter this, either 1. don't hold directly back towards the stage. aim ABOVE the ledge :p or 2. just don't use this tech -_-'

anyway, i know it's already been discovered, but i haven't seen it described anywhere and would like to point it out as well as become acquainted with the actual name for this tech. in fact, it may have been in melee as well (i don't know. i used only zelda in melee. no sheik)...

**edit**also, you can use the move off of any edge that you can dash on... it's just there's no safety ledge for you to grab onto afterward :p

Yeah, you're right. It was back in Melee, any Melee videos of Shino's or KDJ's Sheik would be a good example to see how it was used.

If you want to know how the physics work, basically Sheik has both an aerial and a ground Vanish, and the aerial Vanish comes with a jump at the very beginning. By sliding off, you're canceling the ground Vanish animation into an aerial Vanish. Since you're canceling into it, it doesn't have the beginning frames and thus you don't get the jump boost you would normally get from an aerial Vanish.

It's harder to do in Brawl because of autosweetspot ledges, but it's also possible to cancel an aerial Vanish into a ground one, though there's no point to doing it any more (in Melee, canceling an aerial Vanish into a ground one or vice versa would result in an extra explosion).
