Watch this example. Here you see Mango (Fox) using it to keep his movement unpredictable, running towards Armada (Peach) to bait an attack but juking back to dodge both the nair and dash attack, then immediately turn around again to grab and punish him.

you stay on the ground, mobile, with all of your options available. if you jump, that's a commitment and it's much easier to punish you, since you don't have all of your options anymore (no shield, roll, or dodge, nor can you just dash/wd back out of an attack range).

that's the basics of it.

It lets you bait people, makes it harder for people to read you and all the stuff previously mentioned. The whole point of DD, is to move in and out some's range and force them to whiff an attack. After they whiff, you punish them accordingly.

By moving forward and then immediately back, you bait someone to attack you because you are in range, and then immediately get out of range. However, if successful, they just used an attack, meaning they are in endlag. This allows you to dash back forward and punish.

If they shield to avoid attacking, you simply dash forward and grab. If they do nothing, you continue dash dancing because doing nothing doesn't counter dash dancing. If they back up, you just dash dance closer and take stage location.
