What's the best way to update to the newest version?

Is it better to just overwrite everything in the SD card or select update on the launcher?

Whichever you find most convenient/effective. They should both have the same outcome.

I think the newest version is posted on the website before it is available for download from the launcher.
I may be wrong, I just remember when 3.5 came out it didn't update through the launcher and I had to redownload it from the website.

That was caused by a bug with either the launcher or the download server but it should be fixed now...
