Smash Wii U Whats the best controller? Besides Gamecube

Hello everyone, so this is my first post EVER on these boards, and glad to be here. Anyways, the main topic of this post is what controller do you suggest I use? Besides the Gamecube controller, since those are pretty much unobtainable at this point. Anyways, here is the thing. I've had Super Smash Bros. for Wii U for about 3 weeks now, and the biggest issue I had on week 1 had to do with the controllers. I could not STAND the Wii U gamepad. It took a while to get used to it, but eventually I did. Now I really don't mind using the Wii U gamepad. What I like about the gamepad is that the right stick can be used to activate smash attacks and preform aerial attacks, similar to the C-Stick on the Gamecube controller. There is one issue I have though. Sometimes the inputs I place on the controller don't come out correctly. For instance, sometimes when I try to preform an up-aerial using the right stick, but instead I preform a neutral aerial for some unknown reason. I'm not sure if its because I'm not exactly use to using this controller, but I still think that other controllers could be a better replacement. I really haven't been introduced into smash brothers until Brawl, so I haven't played Melee as much. Because of this, I'm not too experienced with the Gamecube controller that much.

The other day, I tried out the 3DS as a controller. I decided to test it out to see how I play with it in a small simple match, and to my surprise, I actually played REALLY well with the 3DS. I finally thought that I should just use the 3DS as my main controller, but then I found out that the 3DS can only be used in single player mode, which I find to be a really stupid rule.
I honestly wish Nintendo would allow you to use the 3DS controller in any game mode, like online mode. One thing that I love to do in smash brothers is to play online, but sometimes to input on my Wii U gamepad comes out wrong and I end up doing a move that I didn't mean to use anyway. Back in Brawl, I used to Wii remote and nunchuck, but for some reason, my Wii U didn't come with a Wiimote nunchuck when I first purchased it back in the summer of this year. Should I stick with the Gamepad, or should I purchase a nunchuck or some other remote instead?

Thanks!

I'd recommend a Pro Controller or Classic Classic Controller Pro. They're both good, but the Classic Controller Pro needs to connect to a Wii Remote, and the Pro Controller has the face buttons in a weird position. Maybe you should try some third-party controllers. There are the Gamecube Controller replicas that act as Classic Controllers, and there's the Nyko Commander, which is like the pro controller, but without the dumb placement of the face buttons.

Pro controller. It's not uncomfortable and if anything is out of place you can just customize it.

It's all a matter of personal taste of course, but I'm using the Pro Controller (I have no working GC controller...) and I can't play with anything else now.

If you can survive without the GameCube controller that's good because then you can adapt when one of your friends who doesn't have the adapter because of the shortage invites you over :)

How do you normally play? Online or with friends? If you're comfortable with the gamepad and wanna be a for glory champ then you're set. With friends the 3ds is actually a good option...it's what I generally use. Only issue would be online with two players.

Definitely go with the Classic Controller Pro. If you've played a Playstation 2 you'll feel right at home.
