I'm sorry if I got fooled or I miss heard it but I hear people say stuff like pools are tight and I dont know what they mean

what's a pool

Basically when there are a lot of tournament entrants, more than expected, the players can be divided into X amount of pools, where everyone plays each other in a 2/3 set, round robin style(although some pools utilize bracket format even inside pools). The players who perform the best in each pool(usually top 2 or 3) can advance onwards in the tournament into a bracket format.
The main goal of a pool format is to trim down the amount of players before using a bracket to set up the matches. You'll only see it in really large tournaments, or tournaments with 8 or less entrants(since brackets tend to be way too short to be enjoyable in that case).
