What techniques should I learn first?

Im going to get melee tomorrow. Im going to be playing it competitively so what techniques should I learn first? And what techniques should I leave for last?

Marth is best. And just for some more specific stuff.

You really want to grind out Wave Dashing, SHFFLing, and L-Cancelling. Basically the first three and the most important you'll be learning. Plus you'll be using them the most often.

Once you get those basics down, practicing movement will really get you to become a solid player. Movement is super important in smash. Once learned, try to wave dash across FD, waved dash across Battlefield (lower level first, then using platforms), dash-dance, wave land on platforms (on and from ledge to platform like on yoshi's, just anything that invokes movement.
