What rules do tournaments usually have?

Me and one of my friends are thinking of planning a tournament for our friends at college, but I have no idea what rules people usually put down for torneys.

I'd also like to put these matches on youtube, and the best way to do that is by recording replays, therefore it might only be possible to have 3 minute matches.

Thanks in advance! Oh and I mean rules as in, what stages do people use, what stock, etc etc etc?

Well I dont know all the rules off hand but...Neutral stages would be: Final Destination, Smashville, Yoshi's Island.

Usually they are stock matches, 3 or 4 lives depending. Timed up to 8 or 7 minutes. No items.
