What program should I use to make models?

It seems like most people around here use 3D Studio Max. Problem is, 3DSM costs over 3,000 dollars. Seeing as I would rather, say, buy a car than spend that kind of money on a hobby, I need a free alternative. No I'm not going to pirate it. I'm not trying to do anything fancy- I just need a simple model editing tool that can open the .dae, .obj, and other files brawlbox uses.

I have tried sketchup, sculptris, and open3mod, and have not been able to get them to import .dae files. Help please

You know you can get a free copy of max for 3 years if you sign up as a student on the site.
Otherwise Blender seems more up your alley.

You could use blender, although I'm not intimately keen on the method used to import it into Brawl.

Like Xermo said, you could get a student license for 3ds max and that works perfectly fine.

Yeah it looks like that student version of 3dsm is the way to go. Thanks guys, I didn't know there was a free (albeit temporary) version.
