What Mode is Best for Unlocking Rare Trophies?

Trophy Rush gives quantity of trophies, but rarely quality. What would you recommend for the much rarer trophies? The shop seems okay but has obvious limitations.

No mode gives you "rare" trophies better than other modes. I'm not even sure if trophies have a defined rarity. It's all random.

The only ones that really can be classified as rare are the "Alt" trophies. These unlock once you beat Classic or All-Star Mode with a character, and will start appearing in the shop to buy. However, I am almost positive they do not show up as random drops/rewards in other modes. You can only get them through the Trophy Shop, and only once you have completed Classic or All-Star with a specific character (e.g. beating either of those modes with Mario unlocks his Alt trophy to buy in the Trophy Shop, but only his. It also won't necessarily pop up the first time you check).

For Olimar and Bowser. Jr, you unlock the ability to buy a trophy of Alph and individual Koopalings, respectively, instead of an alt colour for them.

My reasons for believing there is a programmed rarity for different trophies is the different base prices they have in the Shop and things like how I have 8 Melia trophies yet 0 metal face, Yaldaboth, etc, etc trophies. Furthermore, over at my brothers' place they seem to be missing the same trophies that I am.

From what I can figure out, the least expensive trophies tend to pop up as random rewards way more frequently than the ones that cost 2500G.

Same with what I've been experiencing.

I'm really curious how people already have all the trophies. Is there some special thing they are doing? Maybe increasing difficulty of modes increases the average base rarity of the trophies you get?

I just sent a comment to somebody who has all trophies on youtube. I'm hoping for a reply.

If anything, getting lucky with the Trophy Shop is probably the only good answer for getting the most expensive trophies.

I got the last five or so non-Alt trophies while farming for custom moves in Trophy Rush; I don't think the odds are as skewed towards the cheap trophies as you might think, there are just more of them (and most of them are around for longer). For reference, I got new ones every 3-6 rounds at worst.

Be sure to check the Trophy Shop often, though, as you are far more likely to get new trophies there than anywhere else.

I unlocked all the expensive trophies before a lot of the cheap ones somehow. I only noticed because other than alt trophies, my last trophies were all from the shop for 500 gold.

I have about 7 trophies left to unlock, some being a challenge prize. I usually check the Trophy Shop, if any luck comes out of that. Otherwise, I keep spamming DK in Trophy Rush to find that one small, random trophy I lack.

At least it helps build up the challenge I need to complete "destroy 50000 blocks in Trophy Rush".
