So a lot of smash players imply that some characters have better double jumps than others. What specific factors make one character's double jump better than another? I imagine control and maneuverability are the biggest aspects, but was wondering if someone could really pinpoint why some double jumps are better than others.

Too low of a height is certianly bad along with speed. In general, I would say a fast acceleration is the best trait to have overall compared to slow. It is what makes peach to me sort of hard to use because her 2nd jump is rather slow to build up speed going up. Ganon's on the other hand has very low height and makes it hard to do a ton of stuff such as wavedash off the ledge.

Falco's jump height and speed makes his wavedash land off the ledge rather hard as well to pull off. So, too high and too low has its bad sides as well. Oddly enough it depends upon the character as well. Puff with falco 2nd jumps would be obnoxious for her to try using.

I would think it's pretty objective

1. Speed
2. Height
3. Attached to a character with a fast fall speed
4. Good horizontal mobility after jump
5. Preferably first jump also be high

Falco has some of the best jumps, the only thing holding him back is #4. The same goes for Sheik and Fox, all three have terrible sideways aerial mobility.

Ganon's slow and short DJ is perfect for ledge mechanics compared to the others. Easy to NIL on stage and abuse invincibility. But overall, yeah his dj is bad.

Generally, when folks say "x character has a good double jump" they actually mean "look at this cool thing x character can do with his double jump". For example, Ganon's double jump is good because he can NIL off the ledge for 18 frames of GALINT. Mewtwo's is amazing because it allows him to recover from anywhere. Fastfallers have great double jumps that they can use to mixup their aerial timings in neutral. DJC characters can throw out fast aerials and even amongst them you have characters that can DJL and those who don't want to DJL. The list goes on and on.
Eh IDK about this, in general 95% percent of the time when someone does say "x character has a good double jump" it refers to the speed and height of the jump.

It allows them to connect more vertical combos, usually means better ledge/platform options, and disallows being platform camped.

I agree that the unique aspects can obviously make some DJs better than others but in general when I hear talk of a DJ being good or excellent it's almost always for it's speed and/or height (e.g. Falco, Fox, Sheik, etc).
