What has become of Tourney mode?

I understand Project M is more so dedicated for battling between non-CPU friends and foes alike. So maybe the need for Tourney mode was considered unnecessary.

But, might there still a way to play Tourney mode, or has the option been eradicated?

Tourney mode freezes, so it redirects to rotation.

They would have to program it to recognize Mewtwo and Roy.

They have better things to do.
