What GC controller has the best performance?

There are dozens of different types of GC controllers but which one is best? A lot of players swear that Japanese controllers are best (white, emerald, Club Nintendo) and will go to great lengths to get them. Other players don’t notice much of a difference and are happy with whatever they can get their hands on that works. Chime in and explain why you think a certain controller is best based on experience and or technical details. What controllers have you used and are some MUCH better than others? Only talking about GC controllers.
