What games are similar to games like 999 and/or Dangan Ronpa?

I had a lot of fun playing 999 and Dangan Ronpa because if the atmosphere that they provided. Is there any official or nonofficial game that has a great suspense story?

Or any great story for that matter

The Wolf Among Us (and the Walking Dead games from what I've heard... made by same people but haven't played them personally) and To the Moon are both amazing (but short) story-rich games. If you have a steam account, I'd definitely recommend getting either of these when they go on sale.

Have you played Virtue's Last Reward? It's the sequel to 999 and it's Vita/3DS. You probably have, but since you didn't mention it directly, I'm definitely going to put this here.

Hm... as far suspense in that same style, there aren't too many you'll be able to play in english. Ever 17 is made by the same person I think, and it's on PC. I haven't played it, but same type of style I hear. Another good suspense one is Ghost Trick for the DS. There's Hotel Dusk, but that's not exactly suspense, but more of a mystery setting that's more calm.

If it doesn't need to be something similar and you just want a visual novel, let me know. There are others that I could recommend.

Thanks for the To the Moon recommendation, hadn't heard of that one yet. Yes, I have played VLR, thanks for suggesting though.

I already played Ghost Trick (and loved it), but I haven't played Hotel Dusk yet. I've been kind of avoiding Ever17 for a while since I'm not a fan of the moe style, but I might just do it anyway.

I'm generally not a fan of VNs, but if you have any others you want to recommend feel free.

Hm... hard to say if Hotel Dusk will fit your style. Just keep in mind that it's more of an atmospheric game than a suspenseful one. It's not for everyone, but it's certainly different. Steins;Gate is actually a good choice too. It has a slow start, but once it picks up, it's pretty suspenseful. Only available on PC right now, but it's being released on Vita/PS3 later this year (just submitted info to the ESRB apparently). Also since you've played Ghost Trick, I assume you've played the Ace Attorney games.

Other than that, that's all I can suggest regarding mystery/suspense. If you wanted to get into something more hardcore with more of a book/novel style, there's Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and also Umineko no Naku Koro ni. They're extremely long games, but I find the mysteries in it handled really well (ignore the anime). They're both some of my favorites for VNs, but it's very difficult to recommend at the same time due to length. The art style can look old and crude since the author drew it himself, but you can apply patches that were taken from the console version to change the portraits.
