I see this joke floating around alot. It goes-

"No items. Final Destination. Fox only"

What does it mean? If anything.

It's a joke about how hardcore competitive Melee players like to play. No items (they're for casuals), Final Destination (the most basic field), and Fox only (the top of the tier list).

While it's greatly exaggerated for humor, it's basically implying that hardcore players almost remove the fun from the game. Most of us don't believe/follow it, but get a chuckle when it's brought up.

It's a joke about the competitve melee crew, because that's what supposed to be a fair match, it was funny 6 years ago

"No items, Fox only, Final Destination" was a common complaint about Melee tournaments before Brawl came out. It's not true, of course, but that didn't stop people from repeating it over and over. The community has since adopted it as a meme.

It's also occasionally popped up with the new Smash coming out, with people predicting, "No items. Bowser only. Battlefield." (referencing the SDCC tournament)

Which basically happened of course. :p
I don't recall this ever being true. IIRC we actually had more legal stages back then than we do now.
In Japan they allowed only Final Destination. Or it was the most used stage at one point.
