I've herd it used in competitive play, but I don't quite know what it means.
If somebody here could answer my question, I'd appreciate that.

this pretty much. i find my case to be weird because I started with maining sheik in sm4sh /then/ maining her in previous games lol (at least in melee where it matters, doesn't matter as much with brawl), not the other way around. I just realized she's always been the smoothest character to play in each game for me.It can mean two things. These are:
1:Using a character even after they get nerfed
2:Constantly using them between games.
no lol, those are just people and their mains. Esam might be loyal to pika/samus but nairo and zero wouldn't be considered loyal to their mains because they play them cu they're top tier; otherwise Zero would've stuck with Diddy and Nairo with Robin.Essentially i think Character loyalty in a competitive sense means you play this character in almost all Situation, and are known for doing so..Ex.. Esam~ Pika Nairo~ ZSS Zero~ Shiek
I actually had a similar experience with Ice Climbers in Melee after playing them a bunch in Brawl, though they weren't my #1 character(s) in either game. I think it's kind of neat to go back and play previous versions and apply what you've learned from the more recent ones and vice-versa.this pretty much. i find my case to be weird because I started with maining sheik in sm4sh /then/ maining her in previous games lol (at least in melee where it matters, doesn't matter as much with brawl), not the other way around. Those seem like pretty good definitions to me.It can mean two things. These are:

At the top level, or competitively in general its foolish to not Main/Secondary a Top 10. But yeah those examples don't tell the whole story..no lol, those are just people and their mains. Not that it matters but yeah
That, or with how difficult he is to play in Melee... perfect button-mashing his down-B makes me shudder everytime.Character loyalty is basically sticking with one or more characters no matter what happens to them in patches or how viable the character is. For example, you would be a character loyalist if you main Captain Falcon in every Smash game, even though he is one of the worst characters in Brawl.
Character loyalists stick with their mains in every game or patch because they either like the character or want to be the best with them.
I am a character loyalist towards Luigi. I don't care how terrible he is in 64 or the fact that he got nerfed in 4; I still main him because he is my favorite character.
Out of curiosity, could you elaborate?Being "loyal" to a character means playing as your favorite characters no matter what happens.
I don't main Rosalina because she's "top tier" or whatever the hell they call it, I main Rosalina because she is my favorite Mario character ever for who she is. Seeing her for the first time when playing Super Mario Galaxy has changed my life forever and since then, she's been my holy grail. I don't give a **** if she gets buffed, nerfed or whatever, I will always main her.
Furthermore, I don't give a **** what the haters say about her, Rosalina will always be my all time favorite Mario character ever...and perhaps even my all time favorite female video game character ever. **** all them haters out there!
P.S. When I said to **** all them haters, that means "**** you, mariotehplumber!"
What do you mean by elaborate? There's nothing to elaborate about when it's already done.Out of curiosity, could you elaborate?
How could a character wth minimal interaction have that profound of an effect on your life? What do you mean by elaborate? There's nothing to elaborate about when it's already done.
There's no explanation for that. It just did.How could a character wth minimal interaction have that profound of an effect on your life?
Must feel bad for those people who main Dark Pit and Ganandorf. My definition of being loyal to a character is choosing no one else, but that character.
No matter how many times you lose, you don't switch the character to another. You hold that character close to heart.
And lastly, its having a personal affection for that character out of the entire roster. As I heard in a YouTube video, the main should be a character you would trust to save your life.
That's the definition of being loyal.
Eh, saying "best character in the game" is probably a bit of a stretch. I still wish Shiek would've stayed a part of Zelda, over her own character.Must feel bad for those people who main Dark Pit and Ganandorf.
Loyalty to a character is using a character despite how low your win to loss ratio gets with that character. Helping build that character up from the lowest of its ranking to the highest of its tier, similar to what Zero did with Sheik. There was a point in Sm4sh when we didn't have tier lists and Little Mac looked pretty beefy. Then we saw Zero start dishing out some mighty Sheik damage and because of this loyalty, we have now learned that Sheik is probably the best character in this game. Still waiting for the next nerf in balance patch.
I wouldn't trust Pac-Man to save my life. He smiles while he drowns! Would you trust a guy like that? I wouldn't. He's still fun to play though. My definition of being loyal to a character is choosing no one else, but that character.

Pacman takes death with stride.I wouldn't trust Pac-Man to save my life. He smiles while he drowns! Would you trust a guy like that? I wouldn't. He's still fun to play though.
Uhhh I thought Sheik was topping most tier lists back in the 3DS days. I cant remember there ever being a time Sheik was not considered top tierMust feel bad for those people who main Dark Pit and Ganandorf.

Same thing for me.I see loyalty as growing with the character... when it clicks to you and you can't stop with it. I just began playing competitive on this year, but my main and my secondaries are the same from circa 2012 when I played Brawl (I don't like Yoshi anymore, my main from 2010)... Kirby, Jiggs, Ness, Marth, Falcon (Falcon and Marth being pockets).
