What do you think of the current 'crew battle' format?

Basically, after watching a few and even taking part in friendly ones, im not really a fan of the current crew battle format. For those who dont know, it involves 2 teams (usually 3-6 people within the team) doing consecutive 1v1s untill one team is all out of people. Dont get me wrong i dont HATE the idea i just think theres better ideas (just my opinion)

My idea is this- 2 teams of 3, (team abc and team123) everyone plays everyone (a vs 1, b vs 2, c vs 3, a vs 2, b vs 3 etc) then do a doubles match so thats a max of 10 games. This way if someone loses they have two other matches to avenge themselves. It also gives a chance to see doubles which is ok i guess, only bad thing is less people are in the actual match. Hope some people reply and see what they think about my idea (again this is just my opinion):)

It's an interesting idea to say the least, but there's definitely a hype factor in the idea of "every stock counts". And I think that's why the current format has been here for so many years.

Heck, I have a crew battle comin on Saturday, and I'm hype. Cuz you know, that you make a difference. You have to play your BEST to help out your teammates, because if you get 3-stocked, they will have to cover a HUGE deficit. And if you take out 5 or 6 of the opponent's stocks, you're a hero.

Or like Alan, who took out 11 stocks in our latest crew batte.

I ran your idea (or at least what your idea sounded like) through a PRNG, and it takes waaay more matches than the current setup to decide, but ten out of ten times I ran it, Team A won. So it won't make a huge difference, but it'll take more time to do the crew setup with your idea.

Let's keep it the way it is.

What you're suggesting is basically a double round robin, which would take ages. Crew Battles are alright as they are, it's just a different kind of match.

But I DO want to see some Doubles crew battles.

I've seen in Street Fighter events where they do a kind of Round Robin where a player will have to play against everyone in a crew and each person they beat scores a point for their side. When everyone has gone through their matches the points are totaled and one side will be declared a winner.
Definitely something that could be used for Smash, but it really depends on those involved which format they'd like to use. Most people stay with an established form and the more common format also lends itself to some hype (one player tearing through several people) but there's always room for something new.
