What do you think of how the CPU plays your main(s)?

Play a few rounds with a level 9 CPU playing as your main(s), and then talk about their play here! They can be dittos if you like, or you can test out their matchup experience with your other characters! Be sure to discuss any strange behaviors they exhibit, or any weird ways they use their attacks. I'll start!

:4drmario: is my main. The Dr. Mario CPU plays... interestingly, to say the least. In the three dittos I had with it, it relied mostly on Super Sheet, Megavitamins, and up smash. It used Super Sheet rather creatively, really! It would occasionally throw it out at close range when I tried to go for a grab, reversing me and allowing it to punish. I'd never expect something like that from the CPU. It also used its side B a LOT when it was at kill percentage, presumably trying to ward off any KO attempts of mine. When it was anywhere but right in my face, it'd use Megavitamins or more rarely the Dr. Tornado, followed by an up smash or a cape when I came close. Unfortunately, though, the lag of the Megavitamins left it vulnerable most of the time, and it'd even use Megavitamins when it was open for punish from below or when the trail of the projectile would not go anywhere near me. The CPU also had a bit of an odd behavior with its down smash: occasionally it would charge the smash for a second, as if predicting a spot dodge or roll. Maybe the developers programmed that in to punish those? Who knows? Aside from what I mentioned, the CPU didn't do anything worthy of note... though I will say that it would be horrid at recovering if not for its inhuman air dodging abilities. XD

How does the CPU play your main?

Link CPU's remind me of FG Links. They hardly ever use their projectiles and try to fight up close the entire time. Nonetheless, they put up a better fight than most FG Links in general.

:4pacman: and :4tlink: CPU's struggle because they don't know how to effectively zone with their projectiles, and :4drmario: CPU struggles because it just spams neutral B.

Shulk's CPU is good at frame perfect counters, but is bad at just about everything else. It thinks using Shulk's down smash is a good idea.

The :4dedede: CPU uses Gordos a lot. And it's always aimed straight, not angled upwards or downwards. They also try to go for inhales, down tilt and grabs rather commonly. Out of a down throw it always does forward air, no back or up air follow-ups to speak of.

As someone who plays coms a lot as Olimar, I'm very familiar with how much the Dr. Marios use the Super Sheet, haha. He and Mario are the two coms I struggle with the most because of their reflection skills, super aggressiveness, and perfect shield/air dodging ability. Playing them has helped me learn how to not spam smash attacks as much though, so I guess it's not all bad.

For some reason, I don't see a lot of :4olimar:/:4alph: when I play random coms. That's probably a good thing, because having six Pikmin on the screen can be kind of confusing. It's not uncommon for me to think I've landed a throw on an Olimar/Alph com only to find out that the Pikmin who grabbed first was one of his, not one of mine. Overall, I'd say they tend to grab a lot, or at least more than I usually do, and are pretty good at it. I think the biggest difference between Olimar/Alph coms and human players though is that the coms don't seem to pay a whole lot of attention to the different Pikmin types. I don't remember ever really seeing them use the whistle to switch Pikmin or deliberately use moves that fit the leading Pikmin in their lineup. Do amiibos do that more? That might be worth testing out.

CPUs :rosalina: tends to use her Luma Shot and Star Bits a lot from what I can tell and I even saw a Lv. 8 one use her Launch Star to her death, which was embarrassing to see.
CPUs :4megaman: uses his Metal Blade and shooting pellets every now and then but he's usually just like any other CPU character I see. Reading your imputs and all that before it happens.

A little OT but I noticed the AI start to use player tricks and sometimes combos even if you or your friends don't even touch the character. It's interesting how they actually learn from your own online opponents. Albeit, slightly. Maybe they're learning when they replace a disconnected player?

IMO, Ryu CPUs are pretty good, actually. They tend to use lots of Ryu's combos, but they spam Hadoukens a lot, too. One thing I noticed about Ryu CPUs is that they hardly ever run, they usually just walk around slowly.

:4duckhunt:s are pretty terrible other than pretty much what every Lvl. 9 is good at, which is frame perfect inputs. I don't think I've ever played a match against it where it used side B or down B.

That's an exaggeration of course, but most, if not all of the time, they don't use it, or use it in the most unnecessary situation. It's probably because most Duck Hunt mains don't use them as they should; as grab setups, so I assume the CPU wouldn't either since they use a lot of player techniques.

I don't often play against CPU Robins, but the fact that they don't try to pick up broken tomes bothers me a lot.

Fox spams lasers and dash atacks. The WFT is not that bad tbh, pretty decent and uses the projectile to its potential

Since Feelicks already accurately described CPU DDD's behavior, I will talk about CPU Charizard, and boy is it strange.
The biggest problem I have with CPU Zard is that it is absolutely horrible with its throws. I have very rarely seen it go for any combos out of down throw. It often doesn't even chase you, it just stands there and waits for you to reset to neutral. Also it goes for up throws WAY too early. Dude, you're not going to kill me with that at 75% as DDD!
Another annoying thing is that they are extremely predictable when recovering. Charizard has 2 air jumps, and two super armor specials that are great recovery options, so STOP DOING THE SAME THING EVERY TIME! It always recovers low, then uses fly to grab the ledge. Even if it has the dragon rush custom, it absolutely refuses to use side-B to get back to the stage, even if it is the only remaining way to get back to the stage!
Also, it randomly short hops a lot in neutral, which is understandable since Charizard's best approach options are his aerials, but it short hops a lot, and not only does it just look weird, but you can time your approach by observing the pattern to catch him off guard.
He also almost never edge-guards, even though Zard is great at edge guarding, but most CPUs have that same problem, including DDD even though he has an amazing edge-guard game.

Speaking of CPU Charizard, I don't know if it's just lower leveled CPUs, but they seem to compulsively side B toward me, even if I'm between them and the ledge, which leads to them dying way too early all the time.

As someone who plays against vs AI9 more than against humans...

Bowser would be really alright if he didn't throw out random neutral Bs all the time and in the most punishable situations. He even disregards his breath being exhausted and WILL trigger neutral B when you would be in range of a "fresh" neutral B, but the actual fire is more of a lukewarm cough. That bothers me so much, because other than that, he is really fine. Has good, fast reactions, can "read" roll spam and abuses the full range of his hitboxes, uses his kill moves okay-ish. Sometimes he does Whirling Fortress in odd situations and often recovers by WFing on top of the platform instead of safely grabbing the ledge but it's not as bad as the non-functional fire spam. He's probably my only Amiibo I can semi-consistently beat, and only because of the neutral Bs. All the while being the most terrifying of the bunch because landing a randomly thrown out smash means almost always a kill.

I've only played Mewtwo in dittos, but he never really gave me much trouble. Not as much as my other AI9 dittos (Bowser, Lucario, Rosalina) but I can't quite figure out why. Whereas AI Bowser seems to use his full speed and range to be efficient, Mewtwo just doesn't. The AI's not really using the character "wrong" imo, but it doesn't mix up his approaches and is rather predictable in general. That might be an issue with his speed, hitbox/hurtbox problems and weight being so unfavorable though. Plus uncharged neutral B spam, sometimes even in the wrong(?) direction. Has absurdly good reactions to reflectable projectiles though, I don't think I ever landed a shot on him.

Marth just tends to Shield break.. A lot.. Even as a Level 8-9 CPU. He just spams Shield Break. Also, he tends to counter at an ungodly rate of accuracy. Try to F-Smash Marth? Counter. Try to Gimp Marth? Counter. Try to use a recovery that has a hitbox? Counter.

CPU Pits are okay. Really good at aiming arrows but they don't fullhop 'em, and Dthrow combos are on point but then they refuse to use any other throw. They also don't recover right at all, almost always ignoring Fspecial and instead uses Uspecial very poorly. Actually Pit CPU's were so bad at recovering they had to patch their AI a while back, and even then they're waaaay too predictable.

They dont even know The grab combos, They dont play The neutral, they try to read my imputs and perfect-shield my attacks, but its easy to perfectly space a Fair on Them, You just need to imput :GCY:and them :GCCR::GCA:,. They retreat before shielding!! If not, just spotdodge after landing, becouse They WILL try to dash attack You after.
I rarelly take more then 80% and 3 stock them.

And I KNOW I am a BAD player.

(I dont have anyone to pratice with, and my net is too trash to get someone to train with me online )

The :4rob: CPU pulls off the d-throw to up-air combo quite consistently.

The really odd thing about the :4rob: cpu is.... they charge gyro.... but never use it....

Im not a villager main but their a.i. is so weird. They plant trees, chop one then they never chop it a second time. They love to side b and go for a grab. They rush too much.

I don't really play the characters or play CPUs much, but I've noticed that lv.9 :4myfriends: like their smashes and that lv.9 :4link: are absolutely in love with the Clawshot. I've never seen anyone use Clawshot nearly as much as lv.9 CPU Link.

Alright, going off battles with LV9s and using Marth regardless of MU because I felt like playing Marth

:4kirby:: It's pretty bad, way too many smashes and terrible spacing(especially mid-air he seems to always be at the paerfect distance to get punished), not too mention tries to grab too much and doesn't seem to have much logic behind wich punishes to use, at least his aerial game seems pretty good when he does them perfect frame bair reactions. Two stocked him for good justice.
:rosalina:: way better than Kirby as I had a harder time with marth. Took one of my stocks and technically half my other. Seems to be programmed to instantly perform an aerial after being sent away from Luma, no matter it if will do any good for her or actually leave her open for punish, well placed smash attacks a good chunk of the time but her aerial game doesn't seem terribly strong.

:4jigglypuff:: Terrible as well, punishes everything with grab or pound and uses rollout for **** n giggles apparently. Hard do punish due to being in the air a lot and as any other CPU dodging everything mid air, but still baiteable and easily pressured. As much as I love my baby Purin I two stocked her quite dominantly.

:4villager:: horrible, tries to play aggro and when zoning just uses grounded Gyroid and randomly spaced fairs(Almost always misses and gives themselves in a silver platter for you to punish). I was about the two stock this one too but I SD'd. Certainly pretty bad at fighting too.

And those are my mains.

On a separate note, Villager was the only one there that used their freaking tilts... what's up with that?

CPU Pikachu really needs to stop thinking short hop Thunder every 15 seconds is a good idea.

CPU :4metaknight: is dumb af. For some reason when at the ledge, he just uses all of his jumps when right next to the ledge then finally does Shuttle Loop. Onstage he goes for rolls and grabs a lot, and is pretty fond of Tornado, fsmash and usmash.

Well :4lucario: as lvl 9 has beaten me a couple times but more of the time, it's due to me messing up and it reacting accordingly. Uses Aura Sphere a lot more than the Amiibo does. (I hardly use FP but my Amiibo uses it quite a bit.)

To be honest, I can't honest put my thoughts together on it. I've been playing wit my Amiibo more than lvl 9's so I'm not sure. I just know that my Amiibo lost (lvl 39 at the time) to the Lvl 9 CPU.

The wario cpu never uses the waft except when i'm nowhere near it and sometimes it bike spams. i just bite it off but it doesnt learn from its mistakes. The olimar one seems to have no idea where it is or what is going on. The ai clearly doesnt know what any of the pikmin are so its an easy win.

The cpus ive had the weirdest experience with would be lucario and pikachu. Every character plays a bit differently i find though. Bowser spams smash attacks. Once I was olimar and it broke my shield, but charging the f smash pushed me away a bit or something because i grabbed the ledge and lived another day.
Lucario cpus spam aura ball, but they never throw it at me. Itll short hop and throw it if its fully charged every time. Sometimes itll throw about 5 mini aura balls in a row.
Pikachus are weird too. I played a pikachu as sonic tonight and it would do every move 4 or 5 times in a row. I 0 to deathed it because it side b'd 5 times and each time it landed i f'smashed it until it died. It came back and started using thunder over and over and then used its side b off the ledge and failed to recover. Guess sonic really does make people rageauit.
Funny that cpus air dodge everything perfectly but will run right into a charged smash attack.
